The Israeli Response Should be Adopted Here

Anytime there’s a mass murder by firearm in the United States, social media fills with calls to “do something.” Gun-grabbers pounce. Politicians virtue signal. The fervent calls to add stricter gun laws come in almost immediately after the news breaks.

While the confused and easily manipulated masses make these calls without actually comprehending what they mean, Constitutional conservatives jump into action to defend the 2nd Amendment. It’s an ongoing cycle that ebbs and flows based on the narrative du jour. For whatever reason, our side of the 2nd Amendment fence cannot seem to break through to enough hearts and minds with the simple truth that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens has NEVER and will NEVER reduce so-called “gun

As a teenager in late 1980s Philadelphia, everyone I knew was a Democrat. There were liberal Democrats, pro-life conservative Democrats, long dead Democrats who voted nonetheless, but no Republicans. The only local member of the Grand Old Party I was even vaguely aware of was literally named Thatcher Longstreth, a city councilman, 8th generation Quaker Phildelphian from the city’s wealthiest neighborhood, and yes, he wore a bow tie.

Has World War III already begun?
Rickards

That’s a serious question and deserves serious consideration by investors. A wave of analysts and commentators have warned that the war in Ukraine could spin out of control and escalate into World War III.

One variation on that theme is that the war could escalate into a nuclear war with tactical nuclear weapons deployed. Most point a finger at Russia as the party that will launch a nuclear strike out of desperation at a failing campaign in Ukraine.

Actually, the opposite is true.

The Biden think tank at the University of Pennsylvania where the president stashed classified documents didn't just have lax security—it also hosted events in partnership with organizations that promoted closer engagement with China, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.
The Penn Biden Center hosted a two-day "bootcamp" for congressional staffers in June that encouraged closer ties with China on issues like green energy and academia, according to a source. One of the organizing groups has an advisory board member who served as spokesman for the controversial Chinese tech giant Baidu. The event was held as anonymous donors from China have poured millions into the University of Pennsylvania.

New House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries hits Chicago on Sunday
Joining Jeffries at a luncheon in River North on Sunday will be Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., the new Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

New House House Minority Leader and Race Baiter Hakeem Jeffries, D-NY., make his first visit to Chicago on Sunday since becoming leader.

New House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-NY, hits Chicago on Sunday in a visit designed to introduce him to and build relationships with top Democratic donors in the city, the last stop in a cross-country swing to bolster fundraising for House Democrats.

This is Jeffries’ first trip to Chicago since House Democrats picked him to replace now-former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who chose not to seek another term as Democratic leader.

Joining Jeffries at a luncheon in River North will be Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., who Jeffries tapped to be the new Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The DCCC is the House Democratic political organization.

Multiple sources told the Sun-Times the event, at a private club, will be small — about three dozen people — with the gathering organized at least in part by DCCC fundraisers. Among those expected to attend are Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., who is close to Jeffries — he stumped for Davis last May across his 7th Congressional District before the June Illinois primary, and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill.

Punchbowl News first reported that Jefferies and DelBene were “hitting the road” in a “high-profile rollout” of the new House Democratic leadership team.

Stops included Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle with Chicago at the end. Joining them in other cities were other members of the new House Democratic team: Minority Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif.

Pelosi visited Chicago fairly often during her decades as leader of the House Democrats, and was well known to all major Democratic donors in the city. None of the new members of the House Democratic leadership have the long-term relationships with top donors in Chicago Pelosi long nurtured.

Is a Real War about to Break Out in Ukraine?

Paul Craig Roberts

As readers know, I am a critic of Putin’s “limited military operation” in Ukraine.  It was eight years late, and its limited objective is unrealistic. Putin needed to occupy Kiev the minute he saw the US coup unfolding.  Failing this, he needed to reincorporate Donbass in 2014 prior to its partial occupation by neo-Nazi militias and Ukrainian military.  He failed to act in a timely fashion because he was deceived by the West with the Minsk Agreement, which was a delaying tactic  to keep Russia at bay until the US had built and equipped a Ukrainian Army.

I understand why the Kremlin limited its intervention last February to clearing the Independent Donbass Republics of Ukrainian forces. Putin did not invade Ukraine, because he did not want widespread death and destruction in Ukraine, long a part of Russia with extensive intermarriage and mixing of populations.  Where the Kremlin failed was in not realizing that Washington would not permit the conflict to be limited to the clearing of Donbass.

Our president is a serial liar who is suffering from dementia!

Washington Has Resurrected the Threat of Nuclear Armageddon

Paul Craig Roberts

As a participant in the 20th century Cold War, I can tell you that the Cuban Missile Crisis had the effect of convincing the leaders of the US and the USSR that trust had to be created between the two nuclear superpowers in order resolve differences and prevent a reoccurrence of tensions at the level of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

President John F. Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev worked together independently of their military/security bureaucracies to resolve the issue. Both paid a price.  President Kennedy was murdered by the CIA and Joint Chiefs of Staff who were determined not to lose the Soviet enemy that justified their power and budgets.  Khrushchev was removed from power by Communist Party hardliners suspicious of accommodation to the capitalist enemy.

After President Johnson destroyed himself in the military/security complex’s Vietnam War, President Nixon renewed the tension reducing policy of President Kennedy.  The Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT) and arms limitations agreements followed.  President Nixon topped them off by opening to China and replacing that tense relationship with the “one China” policy.  This was again too much for the US military/security complex, and they orchestrated with the Washington Post the “Watergate” scandal to remove him from office.

Hunter Biden Lived at Biden Home Where Classified Documents Were Stashed, Records Show

Scandal-plagued presidential scion's apparent access to top secret materials raises national security concerns

Joe and Hunter Biden in the president's 1967 Corvette (Twitter).

January 12, 2023

The home where President Joe Biden improperly stored a number of classified documents was also Hunter Biden’s residency for a number of years, a Washington Free Beacon review of the younger Biden’s laptop concluded.

According to government documents stored on his personal computer, Hunter Biden lived in 2018 and 2019 at the Wilmington, Del., home where his father had classified materials stored in the garage. It is unclear precisely when the documents were put in the garage or when Hunter Biden began living at the residence, but in May 2018 the president's scandal-plagued son was issued a Delaware driver's license listing his father’s home as his primary residence.

The living arrangement raises serious questions following Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint a special counsel to investigate President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents. Hunter Biden, who suffered from a crack cocaine addiction for years and had extensive ties to foreign business contacts, is facing a federal criminal investigation of his own for tax fraud and lying on a firearm application.

Neither the White House nor the Department of Justice responded to a request for comment.

In December 2018, Hunter Biden directed his Wells Fargo financial adviser to change his banking address to the Wilmington address. He also added the address to his PayPal account in January 2019. And a month later, Hunter Biden ordered a number of products from the auction site Tophatter to be shipped to the home, including a night vision monocular telescope, an anti-police GPS radar detector, a 5-megawatt laser pointer, a 360-degree USB webcam, and a $51 smartphone, according to shipping receipts found on his laptop.

Hunter Biden also used the home as his billing address for his Apple account, according to over a dozen receipts on the hard drive dated between January 2019 and March 2019. Digital items Hunter Biden purchased in that timeframe include subscriptions for various dating services, an app that makes calls and texts from a second phone number, and an audiobook of his father’s memoir, Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose.

A notarized Quitclaim Deed located on the hard drive dated Feb. 20, 2019, identifies Hunter Biden as a "divorced man, residing" at his father’s Wilmington property.

Hunter Biden appears to also have had access to the property’s garage where the misplaced classified records from the Obama-Biden administration were stored, according to a report from RealClearPolitics. Then-Vice President Joe Biden said on CNBC’s Jay Leno’s Garage in 2016 that Hunter had rebuilt the engine on his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray along with the president’s deceased son, Beau.

Joe Biden cited his beloved Corvette in a press conference Thursday as he assured the public the classified documents he kept in the garage were secure.

Somebody get his gun before he shoots his eye out!

Another accidental shooting raises doubts about SW Side City Council member’s skills as firearm instructor
Licensed firearm instructor Ald. Derrick Curtis (18th) shot himself in the hand in October, and his daughter was shot during a class he was teaching last week.
By Andy Grimm

Ald. Derrick Curtis (18th) attends a Chicago City Council meeting in November, a few weeks after he shot himself in the hand while cleaning a gun. Last week, Curtis’s daughter was shot in the leg during a firearms class her father, a licensed instructor, was leading.

As a firearm instructor — like, say, Ald. Derrick Curtis (18th) — you’re doing something wrong if you manage to shoot yourself, and then have someone in your class get shot a few months later, experts told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Yet in the fall, Curtis managed to shoot himself while cleaning someone else’s gun, and last week his 25-year-old daughter was shot in the leg as someone — either her father or her brother, according to a police source — handed her a gun during a firearm training session Curtis was leading at a South Side church.

“There are three basic rules: keep the gun unloaded until you’re ready to use it, never point the gun at anything you don’t want to shoot, and keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot,” said Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association and a licensed firearm instructor. “He would’ve had to break all three of those for somebody to get shot.”

Other gun instructors, who asked not to be identified by name, concurred with Pearson.

“It would be like lightning striking twice. Actually, it should never happen,” said a south suburban instructor.

“There is definitely some carelessness or negligence going on,” said another instructor.

The accidental shootings — which resulted in minor hand surgery for the City Council member and a hospital trip for his daughter — have gotten attention this week after Curtis told a reporter his previously enthusiastic support for Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s reelection campaign was wavering because the mayor had not reached out to express her concern after his self-inflicted wound.
RELATEDLightfoot’s ‘No. 1 cheerleader’ in City Council rethinking support over mayor’s failure to call after he accidentally shot himself

State law does not mandate an instructor’s license be revoked unless the instructor has committed a felony, is subject to a protective order, or violates training requirements. Pearson said training violations that the Illinois State Police typically find are related to the length of training courses.

Pearson said multiple training accidents involving the same instructor are exceptionally rare.

Instructors are not required to report accidental discharges during training sessions, a state police spokeswoman said.

ISP, which has the authority to issue and revoke firearm licenses, is notified of issues with instructors when someone files a complaint. State police did not immediately respond when asked whether any complaints had been filed against Curtis, a former Chicago Housing Authority police officer who has held an instructor’s license since 1993, according to state records.

While Chicago Police responded to both incidents involving Curtis, Pearson said an accidental discharge of a firearm during a training session would likely only draw police attention if someone was injured. Chicago Police did not respond when asked if the department would automatically report an accidental shooting involving a licensed instructor to ISP.

Accounts of the incidents in the press include other details that struck Pearson as problematic. Curtis told police he shot himself while cleaning someone else’s weapon, but Pearson said a gun should never be cleaned while loaded.

And the fact that Curtis’s daughter was shot during training at a church also stuck out, Pearson said. A church wouldn’t have the ventilation or “backstop” behind targets necessary to safely operate as a firing range, and firearms should never have live ammunition for classroom training.

“All instructors who do this job hate people who don’t do it right, because it makes us all look bad,” Pearson said.
