Is Bridget Gainer a Mayoral Contender?
This ambitious Cook County commissioner talks about getting things done in the “least sexy” unit of local government and her plans for 2019.

When I interviewed Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer, 48, for Chicago’s June feature story Who’s Got Next?—a showcase for our city’s “emerging power players”—I knew that only a small portion of our interesting conversation would make it into that short profile.
So, here’s some of the rest of the story taken from our hour-long talk at a Gold Coast

In fact, as "manager of the Merchandise Mart", didn't Chris Kennedy himself oversee the fixing of taxes? Sounds like another Blago in the making.

ER surgeon at Seth Rich’s hospital says his gun wounds were not fatal
Yesterday, on the Internet chat forum 4chan, an individual who goes by the alias of Anonymous (ID: rhotYJAg) claimed to be a surgery resident at Washington Hospital Center who had attended to Seth Rich — the 27-year-0ld Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer who leaked thousands of damaging DNC emails to WikiLeaks.
Rich was shot in the early morning hours (around 4 a.m.) on Sunday, July 10, in a residential area of Washington, D.C. Although police say Rich was the victim of a “random burglary,” his killer(s) left behind
Sportswriter fired for exhibiting a nationalistic attitude
We are losing our minds with this PC crap. His mistake was that he apologized. Apologize for what? Speaking your mind?
A Denver sportswriter is out of his job after triggering an onslaught of criticism for tweeting that a Japanese driver winning Sunday's Indianapolis 500 made him "uncomfortable."
Terry Frei, a sports reporter for the Denver Post, sent the questionable tweet shortly after Japanese race car driver Takuma Sato hailed victory in the illustrious Indy 500.
"Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend," he wrote.
The tweet immediately evoked a firestorm of criticism on social media.
Frei apologized Sunday but not after doubling down in his response to the first wave of heat by tweeting "THIS is what Memorial Day is about. Dave Schreiner's death in Battle of Okinawa. Not for squeamish or 'sensitive.'"
Schreiner was an American football player who died while serving alongside his Frei's father in World War II, and whom the sportswriter had written about in the past.
Unsurprisingly, another round of criticism followed, leading Frei to delete his tweets and replace them with "I apologize."
I apologize.— Terry Frei (@TFrei) May 29, 2017
Shortly after he tried to clarify his original comment with an apology letter that referenced his "perspective."
"I researched and wrote quite graphically about the deaths of my father's teammates," he wrote. He said he has the photos Schreiner carried of his family and girlfriend when he was killed. "That is part of my perspective," he wrote.
He then went on to apologize to the people he "offended" and also apologized to Sato.
The Denver Post released a statement on Monday apologizing for the "disrespectful and unacceptable tweet."
"Terry Frei is no longer an employee of The Denver Post," the statement added.
Sato became the first Japanese driver to win the Indianapolis 500, the nation's most recognized racing event, after outpacing more than 30 other cars. He took the trophy after badly crashing his car in the same race in 2012.
Sato has thus far stayed mum on Frei's comments.

It's Chicago, what's the problem?
This is Chiraq: Four teens shot in four hours

Year to date: 1,295 people shot in Chiraq. Rahm must be so proud.
From Chicago Tribune: Four teenage boys were shot over four hours in Chicago, including a 16-year-old killed in the South Shore neighborhood, according to police.
The 16-year-old was shot in the head around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 7700 block of South Marquette Avenue on the South Side, police said. Officers responding to a call about gunfire found the boy on the ground outside, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On the West Side, two other boys, 14 and 17, were shot around 1:15 a.m.Thursday in the Little Village neighborhood, apparently with a rifle, police said. Officers responding to a call about gunfire found the boy on the ground outside, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boys were in a maroon truck near 25th Street and Trumbull Avenue when another vehicle pulled up and someone opened fire, police said. The older teen was wounded in the back, and the other boy was wounded in the foot. They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.
Rifle casings could be seen near the intersection where the shooting took place. Less than two miles away at Mount Sinai, officers surrounded the truck that was pocked with several large bullet holes.
On the West Side just before 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, another 14-year-old boy was seriously wounded in the South Austin neighborhood, police said. He was walking in the 200 block of North Lockwood Avenue when someone opened fire, hitting him in the chest. He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

AVERAGE ILLINOIS FAMILY TO PAY STATE $1125 MORE, THANKS TO IL DEMS TAX HIKE
SPRINGFIELD - If you're able to tuck away $1,125 by skipping Starbucks and walking more in 2017, looks like that money won't be safe, because the Illinois Senate Democrats voted Tuesday to hike the average Illinois family's taxes just that much in 2017.
Here's the scoop from the Illinois Policy Institute:
The Illinois Senate passed a series of tax hikes May 23 that will raise more than $5.4 billion in new tax revenue. Senate Bill 9hikes income taxes, expands sales taxes, and increases franchise taxes. The tax hikes are part of a record $37 billion budget that the Senate also passed May 23.The Senate approved the tax hike bill by a 32-26 margin, with no Republicans voting in favor.SB 9 does the following:
- Hikes personal and corporate income taxes by $5 billion. The personal income tax rate increases to 4.95 percent from the current 3.75 percent rate. The corporate income tax rate rises to 7 percent from 5.25 percent.
- Expands the sales tax to laundry and dry-cleaning services, as well as storage and other services to bring in $55 million.
- Raises $54 million in cable and satellite TV taxes.
- Closes corporate loopholes worth $125 million.
The total $5.4 billion tax hike means each Illinois household will eventually have to pay $1,125 in additional taxes annually.Under the Democrats’ plan, new taxes will apply to many services previously untaxed. And because the Senate has failed to pass a property tax reform package, Illinoisans will continue to see their property taxes – the nation’s highest – go up even more.Because the income tax hike is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017, personal income taxpayers will pay an effective tax rate of 5.81 percent on their earnings for the remainder of the year.
More on the bill that passed the Illinois Senate with no Republican votes HERE.

Unmarked Deluxe Busses Arrive In Chicago Full Of “Protestors”
Lucian Wintrich May 24th, 2017 11:13 am 203 Comments
Thousands of people have recently taken to the streets of Chicago to protest the current minimum wage and demand an increase to $15/hr. One of the initial problems with this wage increase is that a cashier at McDonald’s should not be a job one aspires to retain for the rest of their lives; fast food jobs have classically been reserved as a first job for teenagers, and some college students, who are trying to make a buck between classes.
Increasingly, however, due to poor government intervention in business and expansions in welfare, these jobs have been increasingly filled by middle-aged people who have become victims of the left’s system of governance. So what is the solution? Well, apparently it is to
