West Loop road rage incident ends with probation sentence
A man who allegedly threatened a woman and shot out one of her car tires during a road rage incident in the West Loop has received a sentence of 24-months probation, court records show.
Devon Dortch, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a deal with prosecutors who agreed to drop the most serious charge he faced, aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and two other felonies.
Police said it all started when a 21-year-old woman was cut off in traffic by a white 2011 Nissan Rogue on the first block of North Jefferson on the morning of January 22, 2020. The driver of the Rogue—identified by police as Dortch—suddenly stopped his vehicle, causing the woman to crash into his back
end.Dortch got out of his car, approached the woman, and punched her car window before returning to the Rogue and grabbing a handgun while shouting threats at the woman, Chicago police spokesman Officer Ronald Westbrooks said at the time.
According to Westbrooks, Dortch then approached the woman’s car again and shot her front tire before driving away from the scene.
Witnesses confirmed the incident to officers and provided cops with the Rogue’s license plate number.
CPD’s plate-reading technology network detected the Rogue near Dortch’s home about 45 minutes later, and officers went to investigate. Police located Dortch and took him into custody after he admitted his involvement, Westbrooks said.
I'll bet she was wishing She had a gun. I'm sure His was legal. Yeah, why not Jail?
