Tony Martin was the only candidate that knew what he was talking about.
He did not need a clip-board to know what he thought or to remember his positions. Most candidates were articulate enough. However, I was disappointed in Fran Hurley. As someone who has been so good at constituent services I was surprised how little depth she had with the issues of the community and was shocked that she deferred a question to Bill Cunningham.
After last night, Tony Martin has my vote.
It was good to hear from all of the candidates last night, and I ended up making my mind on who I am voting for. I missed the republican, but the guy i talked to made him sound like he was a RINO...republican in name only.
Tony was spot-on last night. Where many of the candidates had to prepare speeches, he spoke from the heart and was able to address every issue important to the voters in the district. Listening to him talk, answering questions, and giving his speech, my guess is he is the most independent of the candidates that were in the room, and isn’t going to fall lock step in line with the rest of the goons in Springfield. I’ll probably pull my vote for him. He impressed me.
Hodorowitz gave lots of numbers, but didn’t offer much substance in how he was going to fix the budget, or anything really. He’s touting himself as a Mt.Greenwood person, but he lives out in Palos. That’s weak...playing to the community when he doesn’t even live here.
Fran got up and read notes off a clipboard. It was weak. She came in late...probably on purpose. And she tried to chum up the room by apologizing for missing the residents association meeting they had last night...it was cheap and sleazy. She said that her qualifications to the commitment is that she was a cookie coordinator and hot dog mom. She was nervous and was shaking and was having trouble reading from her SCRIPT. The 19th ward probably wrote it for her because they didn’t want her to sound like she was completely out of her element.
She was asked a question about the 19th ward cutting funding the to the Mt.Greenwood Chamber and giving it to the Redevelopment group. Instead of trying to answer it, she stuttered. Bill Cunningham stepped in to answer questions DURING FRAN’S QUESTION TIME and stole the show. My guess is she didn’t have anything on her clipboard that would have told her what to say about that question. The machine is in trouble if she’s their best candidate they could throw up in this race.
Find out how each candidate stands on the Right to Carry.....will they follow Cunningham's policy of denying law abiding citizens the rights guaranteed by the second amendment?
I've lived in the ward my whole life, and I really don't follow the political scene here, but to the commentator dissing Hodorowicz for not living in the neighborhood, I do believe he DOES live within the boundaries of the 35th dist., whereas Martin does NOT! Why should Martin be allowed to run to represent an area in which does not currently reside? I understand if he wins, he'll have to move in but I personally think a candidate should live in the area at the time of the election. Just my opinion......
To All 19th Ward Voters. Remember when you first learned to type. "Now is the time for all Good Men to come to the aid of their country". Well It's time. I read the returning Veterans Blog above and the almost hopeless reply that followed. The current in-office 19th Ward politicians are like a bunch overindulging self-serving liberal addicts that are determined to bring us to the bottom by choosing an "ULTRA LIBERAL" i.e. Fran. It's time to put in place the 12 step Conservative Recovery Program and restore some decency and normality back to the 19th ward. I recommend "we all use the proven "AA" approach to sustain from drinking any more mind altering liberal cool-aid. It's a simple process just get out and vote and then ensure 12 friends vote. The 19th Ward Recovery requires "We Win" by voting for Tony " "AGAIN and AGAIN "
