Though originally from this neighborhood, I have lived on the North and Northwest sides of the city for more than 20 years before coming back. Nowhere else in the city have I ever witnessed the support and genuine care residents of our ward have for each other. Where else could you find a place that holds 2-3 benefits per weekend for families mourning losses or facing serious medical issues like they do here at Bourbon St? Those benefits are indicative of neighbors reaching out for neighbors, doing what they can to ease the suffering and financial burdens of those folks who live down your street in their time of need. In the too often time of negative news it makes you proud to know you're part of the city where some of the nicest people you'll ever meet reside.
