Question

We have a great neighborhood here. A well educated population with some of the highest disposable income in the city, a stable housing stock and a low crime rate.

What is being done to market our demographics to retailers far and wide?

Looks like all the major retailers hit the brakes at Western when they're traveling east-bound on 95th.

The 19th Ward is dead or dying. It will never have the demographics of an Oak Brook or Hinsdale.

In my view there are two reasons....

    1. - in looking into our area, businesses look at statistics from zip codes....and our zip code includes some very impoverished neighborhoods and demographic data that suggests there is not enough backing for their store.
    2. - OURSELVES........yes us.....WE will not frequent certain places once undesirables start to frequent that business.....THEY are not enough to keep the business afloat and it ultimately fails....How many people who lament the current condition of our local business districts never ever shop there!! There are nice restaurants, and other businesses right within walking distance....Also as our area has a lot of entrepreneurs, why not locate your business office on Western or 95th Street

We have an alderman telling residents not to shop at a new dollar store. Now maybe the owner will market his store to residents of Robbins.
