Suburban Police Chase

Saw a chase about 10:25 tonight from Oak Lawn, down 111th st., ending when the bad guys had trouble with the turn at 111th and Longwood Drive.

What bothered me was witnessing the reckless manner with which Oak Lawn PD went through the red light at 111th and Kedzie. About 15 OLPD's at speeds in excess of 55MPH, plus a few other suburban PD's.

It was an adrenalin fueled negligent chase after some POS armed robbers. Big deal. What about the safety of one of our residents thinking he or she has a green light. Sorry guys, our neighbor's life and limb are more important than your bust of some POS. Take it slow when you come up on those red lights.

FYI, CPD vehicles did take that intersection slow.

I recently had an EPPD crack a u turn on Kedzie in traffic and pull me over. He thought I was driving without my seatbelt fastened. I did,but come on ..

EP Police are very overly aggressive.

EP Police are pretty ridiculous when it comes to pulling people over and ticketing. The overtime that POs receive for "court time" is over-the-top, even creates an incentive to issue DUI tickets.

Oak Lawn is pretty bad too, though.

I saw the start of the chase. Started at 108th and Cicero. Driver tried to hit one of the OLPD officers.

Elaborate on that. What do you mean the offender tried to hit one of the officers. Hit him with what? His fist? His car? How do you know that?

Did his attempted battery justify at least 20 suburban squad cars racing through Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park? Police speeds at 111th and California were estimated at in excess of 80 MPH. Is that kind of recklessness in a residential neighborhood ever justified? I think not.

So what? EP just got done paying for a wrongful death from a speeding squad.

The driver, driving a stolen car, did hit an oak lawn officer with that car. Speeds estimated at 80 mph....by who? Did somebody have a radar gun? Would you like to just see every offender speed off and have police officers just stand by and watch? If this animal will run over a police officer while on duty, imagine what he will be willing to do to you or your family. I think it's time that police officers are appreciated and not criticized. Job well done, fortunately nobody was hurt other than the officer hit by the car.

Good job to all involved. Glad nobody got hurt. To all you who criticize, you are nothing more than Monday morning Quarterbacking. Not one person is criticizing the bad guys or holding the accountable. To my Suburban counterparts keep up the good work.

The bad guy is a POS. What's at issue is OLPD speeding through a residential neighborhood. What if one of these PDs had broadsided a van containing a family or gone out of control into a house. What would you say then?

i would say that the police were doing their jobs and you should hold the person driving the stolen vehicle who tried to run down a police officer accountable. At some point you need to blame the outcome on the person who started it, here it would be said offender. Otherwise, why have police in the first place? They are doing their jobs by reacting to situations created by dangerous people. Any and all injuries or outcomes should be laid at the feet of the offender, not the police. Let the police do their jobs.

these comments remind me of when we were sent to the rear in Viet Nam and a couple of new guys were sent to load bodies of american gis on a truck to the morgue, the newbie thought that being in the rear he would be spared the sight of such carnage, welcome to the real world people....

I think if 15 squads (Oak Lawn really have that many working a shift?) come blasting through an intersection, then the public is pretty aware of what's going on. A squad running darked out running a light, then that's a problem. 15+ squads with a seizure inducing light show and sirens blasting, then the motoring public should probably be paying attention. Also spare me about CPD slowing for the intersection, they probably did cause they weren't authorized by their bosses to be in it.
