Where are our local leaders?

This is a repost of something from last September.

What business raises their prices by 26%?

Waste and Inefficiency
The Metra Board is mulling fare increases which average 26%. If a business tried that, they would be out of business. Trust me when I say the Metra Board is composed of grossly incompetent people. They have a $65 million deficit? Did they ever hear of budgeting? How about cutting your expenses? How about living within your means?

Imagine the detrimental effect this is going to have on our neighborhood. We need our local pols to jump into action.

They can't be found. A 10% increase in 2008 and a 26% fair increase in 2012 and our elected officials see nothing wrong?

Matt O'Shea has been hard at work looking into the reasons for these huge increases. He is going propose cost cutting measures.

Matt O'Shea said he was against Metra increases right after he said no to the SSI Parade, lol.

Seriously, I'm up for voting out all incumbents. The past couple years, we've heard all the talk about going green/using mass transit/etc. So we do that and now it costs an arm and a leg to park in the 111th street Metra lot AND the fares have increased for CTA and Metra.

As someone who has worked both the public and private sectors, I'm going to say that you must stop wasting money. These public officials need to treat the public coffers like it was their own personal cash. There's a lot of fat to be cut from the payrolls. The no bid contracts and kickbacks need to stop. Where's the Federal government and the DOJ when you need them?

Time out. Blaming Ed Maloney and Matt O'Shea is not right they have nothing to do with these increases.

This is off-topic, but I don't know where to put it--Does anyone know why our public schools, particularly Kellog, suck? I would be ok with Sutherland, maybe Clissold, but I live in the Kellog district.....I don't know where those kids come from, but they are not Beverly kids (most of them, that is). The schools on the NW side are outstanding--why don't they get kids bussed in? Anyone know what can be done?

THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT YOU HAVE POLITICAL IDIOTS RUNNING THINGS THAT THEY SHOULDNT BE TOUCHING. OSHEA, MALONEY HYNES RUGAI DART CUNNINGHAM, ALL WITH THEIR DOUBLE OR TRIPLE PENSIONS. NOT ONE OF THEM COULD HOLD A JOB IN PRIVATE INDUSTRY.

A ticket for Metra on the Beverly line is $125 a month. With about 20 business days in a month that is $6.25 a day. What does it cost to drive down in gasoline and pay to park downtown?

Also, don't forget even at $125 the government gives you a handout in the form of a subside from the State for Metra. Without the subsidy the ticket would be close to $200 a month. Why don't you give back the subsidy and pay the full amount so the state can lower its taxes for the rest of us.

  16. The good thing about this site is it shows people really care about what is going on in our community. I can imagine that the ward office is not too thrilled with some of the discussions but they have to know that we appreciate their efforts too.

Try lowering fares, cut waste and no free rides for anybody except for employees of Metra.
