I wrote about this before. Everyone has a parade except us. Bud Biliken, Gay Pride, Mexican Independence, Puerto Rican, Norwegian, Dutch, Germans, Italians, Chinese, Polish, Columbus, come on. Why can't we get our parade back? We pay taxes. We contribute to society. We need to insure that the achievements of the Celts are celebrated.
Thank you Skinny Sheahan for jump starting the 2012 parade.
Good for our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteLet's bring it back, but let's use one of the original parade routes. I believe the first route was around 79th and Halsted and the second one was s/b on Ashland from 79th.
ReplyDeleteFor old times sake, we can park at St. Sabina's, or Little Flower, or St. Ethelreda.
THANKS SKINNY, I SURE DID MISS THE DRUNK SUBURBAN KIDS PISSING IN MY GANG WAY,
ReplyDeleteI think having the parade back will be good for the neighborhood provided there is aggressive enforcement of zero tolerance for public drinking.
ReplyDeleteNot enough Police in the city to keep tabs on all the hooligans the past few years. Even less PO's now. Please DON'T do it.
ReplyDeleteYes most people do have their own parade and most are downtown just like the Irish Parade is. There is also one on the NW side & in forest Park. Go to one of them. I really don't want kids from outside the area coming here to help the POS that live here ruin it again.
ReplyDeleteFor those that think it was just the kids from outside the area doing it, you need to wake up and look at the kids on your block too.
If I cant raise my kids and teach them about Irish culture I will probably move.
ReplyDeleteAs we say on facebook, "like."
ReplyDeleteNo No No to the revival of the Southside Irish Parade. The idea that we could afford the needed security is preposterous. what is Skinny's agenda?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean about moving if you can't teach your kids about Irish Culture? I hope you don't think the parade was Irish Culture?
ReplyDeleteits an irish thing. its obvious you are not irish. you wouldn't understand.
ReplyDeleteTHE PARADE WAS IRISH CULTURE. The problem is that many of the celebrants were not.
ReplyDeleteI am Irish. Public drunkenness, underage drinking, urinating and vomiting in the streets, and leaving garbage everywhere is not Irish culture. My family celebrates and commemorates the success of the Irish in America, the acceleration of education and economic status, great Irish literature/drama/music/dance, independence from an oppressor, prevailing in a civil war, learning about the Irish language, sharing family stories of our immigrant grandparents and parents, visiting our ancestral home, tracing our roots, reading about the long and complicated history of the Ireland as told by well-educated historians who write books on the topic, and understanding the political and historical implications of the famine. The antics on Western Avenue have nothing to do with that. I know some people think that blaring a Clancy Brothers album at their house party where the high school kids "sneak" alcohol while the parents turn a blind eye is an exercise in cultural awareness. I know that many in the ward think that dressing up their daughters like little Jon Benets reveals their Irish pride. If you want to celebrate your culture, become cultured. If you want a big party, invite people over. You don't need the rest of the neighborhood to engage in a carnival atmosphere when you do it.
ReplyDeletecan caterina be the queen of the parade???
ReplyDeleteLets have it so we can give Skinny another government pension, he cant get by on four.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to attend the next parade meeting on August 22 at the Beverly Arts Center.
