    I am from the old generation of people who refused to eat processed and canned foods because we did not trust them. Our fruits and vegetables had worms that had to be removed by hand and washed because pesticides were not used. We cooked dry beans and fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden or markets and delivery trucks. Men farmed their animals and sold fresh meats. Chickens were purchased alive and killed at home when ready to be cooked for Sunday dinner. People went fishing and cooked their fish and seafoods.

    Many women were self employed as seamstresses, beauticians, music teachers, tutors, knitters, etc., and cooked their nutritious meals at home. Children learned to cook and eat healthy meals for learning and memory to take place.

    We are living in the era of working away from home and driving long hours to and from work that requires people to consume processed food, salty and sweet foods, convenience foods, excess caffeine, alcohol, restaurant food, and so on that’s causing the body to malfunction and weaken the immune system that’s requiring numerous vaccines, prescription drugs, tranquilizers, etc.

    Requiring extra billions for Medicaid and Medicare will not solve the health problem. People must be taught how to prevent the abuse of their bodies by changing their eating habits, being aware of what they are eating, changing their lifestyles, learning to prevent disease, and early death. Increasing billions to fund Medicaid and Medicare will not prevent diseases and early death.
