What could go wrong?

Mayor Brandon Johnson Wants to Open Taxpayer-Funded City-Owned Grocery Stores
By Mike LaChance Sep. 14, 2023 10:15 pm

Now that so many businesses are fleeing crime-ridden Chicago, including grocery stores, the city’s new Mayor Brandon Johnson wants to open grocery stores that would be owned by the city.

Does Johnson think that city owned stores won’t get robbed like privately owned supermarkets?

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is looking into opening taxpayer-funded, city-owned grocery stores in areas in which businesses have pulled out due to rampant crime.

Johnson announced a partnership with the Economic Security Project to look into the possibility of opening city-owned grocery stores. The first step in the partnership will be to perform a feasibility study, but the city did not provide a timeline, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Johnson claimed his administration is “committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.”

The mayor said in a statement:

All Chicagoans deserve to live near convenient, affordable, healthy grocery options. We know access to grocery stores is already a challenge for many residents, especially on the South and West sides. A better, stronger, safer future is one where our youth and our communities have access to the tools and resources they need to thrive. My administration is committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.

People steal for various reasons and they don’t care who owns the business. Therefore city owned stores will receive the same treatment and will out of business.

There are too many poor, uneducated, unskilled, malnourished, and neglected young people in Chicago and other high crime cities who have given up on leadership and have resorted to criminal behavior. Therefore the solution is to declare a war against poverty by providing job training and placement programs taught by professional trainers who are expertise in their field. Provide tutoring centers to teach math and reading in preparation for high tech learning. Include nutrition education to teach how to eat the required foods to improve memory and thinking skills. Include vocational training programs in junior high that continue through high school with job placement. Focus on training youth to prevent destructive behavior. Require students to wear uniforms and teachers to dress professionally to bring back pride and seriousness of education.

Businesses are planning to require customers to order online and pickup items at curbside to prevent shoplifting. Some stores have online shopping and delivery.
Perhaps the mayor has not done his research.

Encourage businesses to stay in Chicago by focusing on ways to get rid of high crime. Reach out to the parents of young criminals and offer parenting skills to prevent delinquency because negligent parents are allowing their children to bring stolen items into the homes or allowing their children to roam the streets all hours of the night engaging in criminal behavior. They don’t care about their children.

Criminals don’t care who owns a business, they simply want to steal your merchandise and sell it to make money and whatever. They don’t know how to live as caring and law abiding citizens.
