Hillcrest High School shooting: 14-year-old killed following Homecoming Football Game

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS - A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot following a high school football game in the south suburbs Friday night.

Country Club Hills police were at Hillcrest High School, located at 17401 Pulaski Road, clearing out a group of people around 9 p.m. when shots were fired.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

The boy was identified as Marshawn Mitchell from Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The shooting happened just after Hillcrest High School's Homecoming Football Game against Oak Forest High School.

It is not clear if Mitchell was a student at either school.

Country Club Hills police are actively investigating the incident.

I am not going to be critical of 19th ward politicians. They tend to do the best job they can with very limited resources, and don't need to be beaten up. In fact, people should be helping them as they are among the last "normal" leaders in Illinois.

I am keeping the 19th Ward Chicago name because of the rich blog history going back to 2010 and because there is a ready-made base of similar-thinking readers. For now on, the 19th Ward of Chicago will be mainly a point of reference, an observation deck if you will. A place where allot of good-natured, normal-thinking people still live and can safely view the dysfunction overtaking America. Write whatever you want about whatever or whomever you want. Just keep it true and not vulgar.

At all times, we am going to comply with Blogspot's community standards. We have seen what happens when there is not such compliance.

We will never publish threats of physical violence or baseless attacks on people or institutions.
