5 shot, 2 fatally, in drive-by at South Side park

CHICAGO - Two men were killed and three others were wounded in a drive-by shooting Sunday night at a park in the Fernwood neighborhood.

The men were standing in Smith Park in the 9900 block of South Princeton Avenue just before 8 p.m. when a gray Honda sedan pulled up and people inside started shooting, according to Chicago police.


A 37-year-old man was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 33-year-old man was shot in the neck and was transported by paramedics to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Their identities have not yet been identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office.

A 27-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the buttocks and shoulder and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

A 25-year-old was shot in the torso and a 19-year-old was struck in both legs in the shooting. They were both transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.

No one is in custody as Area Two detectives investigate.
