Chicago police celebrate life of Officer Ella French on what would've been her 31st birthday

The Chicago Police Department honored Officer Ella French on what would have been her 31st birthday Wednesday.

CHICAGO - A man facing charges in connection with the killing of Chicago police officer Ella French wants to be released from jail.

Eric Morgan is asking a judge to grant him bail while he waits for trial.

Morgan is facing 11 felonies but he is not charged with the murder of French.

His brother, Emonte, is facing a first-degree murder charge in French's death.

The petition argues holding Eric Morgan without bail is "excessive."

Prosecutors said French and two other officers stopped Emonte and Eric Morgan for having expired plates.

They said the brothers got out of the car when told to, but, Emonte Morgan refused to put down a drink and cellphone he was holding.

Prosecutors said he got into a struggle with police, while Eric Morgan ran off, and at some point, Emonte Morgan started shooting, killing French with a single shot to the head.

I wonder what ever happened to the woman who tore up her picture at the memorial in the State Building.

I am not going to be critical of 19th ward politicians. They tend to do the best job they can with very limited resources, and don't need to be beaten up. In fact, people should be helping them as they are among the last "normal" leaders in Illinois.

I am keeping the 19th Ward Chicago name because of the rich blog history going back to 2010 and because there is a ready-made base of similar-thinking readers. For now on, the 19th Ward of Chicago will be mainly a point of reference, an observation deck if you will. A place where allot of good-natured, normal-thinking people still live and can safely view the dysfunction overtaking America. Write whatever you want about whatever or whomever you want. Just keep it true and not vulgar.

At all times, we am going to comply with Blogspot's community standards. We have seen what happens when there is not such compliance.

We will never publish threats of physical violence or baseless attacks on people or institutions.
