Pritzker says he will implement restrictions again if COVID numbers continue to rise

Governor JB Pritzker said Tuesday if COVID-19 numbers continue to increase in Illinois, he would take action.

CHICAGO - Governor JB Pritzker said Tuesday if COVID-19 numbers continue to increase in Illinois, he would take action.

This comes as other states across the country see a surge in new coronavirus cases.

“I will not hesitate to re-impose some mitigations if we see our numbers moving upward,” Pritzker said.

Meanwhile, the City of Chicago has expanded its emergency travel order that requires travelers from states experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases to quarantine for two weeks.

“It is not an advisable time to take a vacation to any of these states that are on this high risk list,” said Dr. Allison Arwady, who is the commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Starting Friday, anyone arriving from Iowa and Oklahoma will have to self-quarantine. The order now applies to a total of 17 states. Violators could be fined up to $7,000.

To comply, travelers must stay at a single home or other dwelling for 14 days except to seek medical care or be tested for COVID-19. The order also applies to city residents returning from a visit to a designated state.

Chicago officials acknowledge there’s little way of enforcing the order. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the order can raise travelers’ awareness of “what their obligations are when they travel.”

“We are seeing now the largest number of new cases in that 18 to 29 year old age group. Really followed by the 30 to 39 year old age group,” Arwady said.

She says data suggests the virus is largely being driven by what she calls "community spread."

“This is not so much about seeing the big increases in long term care facilities,” Arwady said.

She warns that if numbers of daily cases rise significantly, Chicago will have to take a step back in reopening.

“That’s when we're going to need to take steps backward as a society and think about putting more restrictions in place,” Arwady said.

The Illinois Department of Public Health on Tuesday reported 707 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 25 deaths. Overall, there have been 155,506 confirmed cases and 7,218 deaths.

  1. I'd really hate to see more restrictions put back into place and I do really feel bad for the young people who naturally want to get out and have a good time. But I walked into a tavern last Friday night around 10:00 PM on 111th and believe me the last thing on the patrons' minds was the virus and social distancing. Please we need to just practice a bit more common sense is all for the foreseeable future or we will again have lockdowns, guaranteed

If thats how you feel Tony, stay out of the bars and all other public places. I will live my God given right the way I want to, don't ever tell me to wear a mask. Do you think testing positive is a death sentence? I got an idea, stay in the basement and watch CNN. The Demonrats are going to lock us down again, this virus is a political narrative being used to "fundamentally change America". You think if that jerkoff Obama was in office that this hysteria would be going on? WTF do you think this is all about? When has the Government ever given a shit about anybody, politicians only care about their egotistical selves and power. These politicians need to go, I dont need to conform to their unconstitutional power grabs !!!

    2. Whoa boy.Not hiding from nothing,my business was deemed necessary so myself and the employees have worked right along through this and the riots too I may add.I like the rest of the people have no idea if this is a man made fiasco or if this is all hyped up to make Trump lose in November or if indeed this is the real thing. My comment was based on the fear that Pritzker and Lightfoot will once again shut down taverns and restaurants over this. They've already taken a severe beating. I too think wearing a mask is stupid and more than likely completely useless. But to sit there and completely ignore this is also stupid. To watch people who are merely acquaintances hug, kiss and slobber over each other after having a couple of drinks is just nuts. I'll err on the side of caution,I haven't changed my life that much at all, I'm just a little more aware of my surroundings is all. Now if that is considered being a puzzy in your book so be it

Never called you a puzzy, I'm not a Demonrat that calls people names. I'm just tired of all the positive tests being reported and you never hear of all the recoveries. I believe 100% this virus is real, it's deadly to some, so destroy litery 100s of millions of people's lives. Hey if I get it, life has been a hell of a ride, don't stop living and providing for your family on my account. Live on and move on.

Democrats pushing for their vote by mail scheme will lock things down. If sleepy joe wins, the virus will be no longer a threat. Socialism will be the new threat and the country will not survive.

This is literally the fight for our country. In my opinion, it doesn't matter who wins in November, there will be a civil war. When is the next false flag? Im not convinced Greg Floyd is dead, Im not a conspiracy theorist, but what cop would put his hands in his pockets and be clearly video taped that way. There is something not right, did you notice the Chinese guy never even engaged in trying to assist in the supposed arrest? He stood there like a bystander. Something in my gut tells me this is a set up. Why haven't we heard a thing about what jail this cop is in, nothing.
