This is who he is

Jimmy Kimmel apologizes for Karl Malone blackface sketches, says he’s ‘evolved’
Kimmel said he “never considered that this might be seen as anything other than an imitation of a fellow human being, one that had no more to do with Karl’s skin color than it did his bulging muscles and bald head.”

Jimmy Kimmel has responded to complaints over his appearances in blackface, dating back decades, including impersonations of NBA star Karl Malone.

“I have long been reluctant to address this, as I knew doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us. That delay
was a mistake,” Kimmel wrote in a statement released Tuesday by his spokesman, Lewis Kay.

Kimmel said he “never considered that this might be seen as anything other than an imitation of a fellow human being, one that had no more to do with Karl’s skin color than it did his bulging muscles and bald head.”

The 52-year-old television host called these impersonations “embarrassing.”

First off, its improbable that based on a history of his work, its unlikely that anything embarrasses Jimmy Kimmel, whether it be dressing in blackface or doing "man on the street" skits in which his pants are "enhanced" to simulate an erection while interviewing women passing by. The reality of this "sincere" apology statement was most likely crafted by a team of publicists who determined his sudden departure from the show "on summer vacation" wasn't going over with the public after the disclosure of these taped performances.

Unfortunately, in way too many cases, apologies and punitive remedies are linked with financial renumeration which makes you wonder if the victim was really offended, or just looking for a fast buck. In either case, conflating immoral behavior with money as a remedy is pretty sick.
