Until the early 1950's the area east of Kedzie from 104th to 106th was known as Lake Ridge.
Check the old relief maps. At some point it was filled in and the houses were built.
Now it's flooding again as old swamps so always do. Many houses there have experienced shifting
and flooded basements. At least one insurance company has redlined the area. A check on Google
Earth shows the area has sunk 3 inches since 2011. The USAC map shows the area has sunk 5
inches since 1998.
There are calls for the construction of a super-sewer that will take the excess
rainwater from the neighborhood to the Alsip swamp. This sewer was designed in the early 1950's but
never installed.
I don't know if it would make those folks feel any better that live in that area, but I'm hearing from a ton of people that they got water last night. Our neighborhood got a soaking that's for sure. My sump pump ran non-stop and I had to shop-vac 3 times throughout last night and this morning to keep ahead of it
