The electorate has been described by our leaders as a "basket of deplorables", "garbage" and "scoundrels". Besides that, they do truly care.
Trust me when I tell you that this is the prevailing attitude among a majority of our political leaders. Dat's why they call them the "Elite" don't you know.
Don't know how true it is today, but not very long ago the Catholic Diocese in Chicago owned more property than anybody else in the county. Those holding continue to be sold off. Construction on the northwest side of the city relies on contractors buying knock-downs or purchasing vacant property owned by the diocese, many times un-used portions of Catholic cemeteries. When the need for leadership in our diocese has never been stronger, we are saddled with a Cardinal who says nothing in regards to civil disobedience by priests who are to answer to him. Each passing year sees more and more diocese announcements of parish consolidations and school closings. The diocese cites drops in attendance or enrollment, in spite of fundraising efforts of parishioners who fund raise to stave off these closures. Maybe if the Cardinal would get off his dead ass, and tell his priests that any claims against the diocese for their errant behavior will be on them and we wouldn't get those weekly pleas for enhanced contributions.
Bishop Fulton Sheen is turning in his grave.
ReplyDeleteThe most divisive leader in the church. How can he be removed?
