Lightfoot picks former Dallas Police Chief David Brown for Chicago's top cop
Mayor Lori Lightfoot has chosen former Dallas Police Chief David Brown to become the city's next top cop.

CHICAGO - Mayor Lori Lightfoot has chosen former Dallas Police Chief David Brown to become the city's next top cop.

Lightfoot offered the post to Brown to replace Supt. Eddie Johnson, who retired last year. She made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

What is wrong with her...She couldn't pick someone from home or close to home...This is sickening...Just sickening. From Texas??? What is his position on sanctuary cities. Is this why he left. Did she pick him because he looks like Samuel Jackson or does he deserve it. Is there not enough talent from within. Lori, it looks like its time for you to go too. You are such a disappointment.

No matter who the pick was going to be there was going to be an outcry from the rank & file,always is. Let's go back to when Cline got the job, everyone on the force was elated because he came up through the ranks and was definitely a cop's cop. And what happened? The rank & file merely embarrassed his tenure at every turn with one stupid off duty incident after another. The key to this new chief is going to be who he surrounds himself with,then we'll see what is what. And let's see how much latitude our control freak mayor gives him. She pretty much made a jackass out of Johnson,although he did a great job of doing himself in too.Also I'm going to watch how much new chief Brown allows himself to be swayed by the grossly self important Black Caucus alderman. The law is supposed to be the same for everyone PERIOD! And let's wish our new chief gets himself a new State's Attorney come November. Anyway, good luck to you new Chief Brown, you're going to need it.

I am not going to be critical of 19th ward politicians. They tend to do the best job they can with very limited resources, and don't need to be beaten up. In fact, people should be helping them as they are among the last "normal" leaders in Illinois.

I am keeping the 19th Ward Chicago name because of the rich blog history going back to 2010 and because there is a ready-made base of similar-thinking readers. For now on, the 19th Ward of Chicago will be mainly a point of reference, an observation deck if you will. A place where allot of good-natured, normal-thinking people still live and can safely view the dysfunction overtaking America. Write whatever you want about whatever or whomever you want. Just keep it true and not vulgar.

At all times, we am going to comply with Blogspot's community standards. We have seen what happens when there is not such compliance.

We will never publish threats of physical violence or baseless attacks on people or institutions.
