Chicago Baseball

The Cubs are in 1st place with an eye to the playoffs. Every game is exciting and the fans get their moneys worth.

Then there is the White Sox, another year of rebuilding as they again are in last place. Ticket sales are a scam as this is just another triple A team. It won't change until there are new owners.

had the Sox game on yesterday, the starting pitcher didn't make through the 3rd inning, taken out after he threw 80 pitches. Pathetic

  2. Let's see a show of hands. How many people would've loved to have seen then Gov.Thompson call Reinsdorf's bluff years back and tell him "Go ahead and take the Sox to Fla. Jerry Reinsdorf was one of the architects behind the catastrophic 1994 strike which hurt his own team as bad or worse than any other team in MLB that year. The 94 Sox were probably the best Sox team assembled in my lifetime. What true Sox fan can forget the "White Flag Sale" in 1997, when the Sox were 3 back of the Clev Indians and Reinsdorf declared that the "team just didn't have it that year" and traded multiple pitchers away. Plus the State of Illinois has rarely gotten crapola out of their of attendance deal because I believe the Sox have only exceeded the 2.2 mil parameter in attendance 8 times in the 28 year of the new park's existed. Yes Reinsdorf needs to go . But let's face it,it ain't going to happen MLB teams are cash cows, as are the other pro sport franchises

With revenues from concessions and all the broadcast rights from TV and radio, Reinsdorf could care less. While on a Florida trip my wife and I took a ride through Tampa/St. Petersburg when we came upon the stadium that had been built, which was used in an attempt to lure the White Sox to relocate there. Think about all the retirees in Florida, living on fixed incomes, paying high health insurance premiums in their twilight years. How many do you suppose could afford to go to MLB games on a regular basis, let alone put out $8 - $10 for a beer? Ever see the Tampa Bay Rays stadium filled to capacity. Maybe when the Rays were in the playoffs and World Series. But after that they backed up the truck - based on attendance they couldn't afford to pay the players. So yeah, Reinsdorf's threats were just that, threats. For all the bs that's going on now, 28 years ago Chicago was the 2nd largest market in the country. The only way Reinsdorf would have moved the team there would be if he were looking for a huge tax write off. Incidentally, driving through the neighborhood where Minute Maid Park (I think it was called that), would be like driving over to 63rd and Stoney Island to stop for a few beers. Clearwater, Florida would have been a much better location.

ML wouldn't let them move. The real reason they didn't go is because Mike Madigan had Golden Boxes in the old place right behind home plate.

"It won't change until there are new owners. " just like the Bears.

ML wouldn't let them leave? Are you kidding. Reinsdorf owned Bud Selig. But if he did, how tough do you think it would be to bring in a franchise to take their place?

Real easy since they want 2 teams in Chicago.
