MORGAN PARK — Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) and speed skater Tommy Shimoda will pump gas Sept. 22 to raise money for Special Olympics Chicago.
O'Shea will man the pumps at Kean Bros. from 3-6 p.m. alongside the 24-year-old gold medalist in the 500-meter race. The Mount Greenwood skater also won a bronze medal in March in the 777-meter event at the Special Olympics World Winter Gamesin Austria.
O'Shea is again running the Chicago Marathon to benefit Special Olympics Oct. 8. The gas station at 2632 W. 111th St. in Morgan Park will donate five cents for every gallon sold from Monday through Sept. 24 to the Special Olympics' marathon team.
Shimoda will also have his 2017 ESPY Award at the fundraiser. He will also be the first Special Olympics athlete to be inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame next month.
"Ald. O'Shea, everyone in the neighborhood, the businesses and the whole community have given me a lot of support," Tommy said in July when it was announced that he'd receive an ESPY.
O'Shea is a member of the Special Olympics Chicago Board of Directors. He did a similar fundraiser in February to raise money for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's "Get Behind the Vest" initiative.

O'Shea is a good guy who does a lot for the people of the 19th, and I'm tired of hearing all of the naysayers talk shit about he and his wife. They have skin in the game, and it's high time for people to realize this.
