If Mitch Trubisky isn't the Chicago Bears starting QB in Week 1, "You've got problems" -- so says Bears legend Mike Ditka.
To say Da Coach was impressed with the rookie's preseason debut Thursday night is a gross understatement. Ditka believes it's TRUB OR CONSEQUENCES!
"What I saw out of Trubisky for a rookie in his first game I thought was outstanding," Ditka said
Trubisky, the second pick in the NFL draft, went 18-25 for 166 yards and a touchdown after replacing starting quarterback Mike Glennon who went 2-8 for 20 yards and an interception.
Ditka thinks the decision is obvious and says Trubisky made a better first impression than guys like Tom Brady and Fran Tarkenton.
"It's clear cut he should be your starter," Ditka said
One pre-season game will not be enough to decide the issue. If Trubisky continues to play well as he did Thur, we may see some place changes. Also if Glennon plays like he did Thur.....2 for 8 including an interception, then Da Coach has a point. If the trend continues during the rest of the preseason, then yes you give the job to the best player. That has been the problem with Bears coaching/ownership where they gave certain players, especially QBs basically a promise to start, whether they played well or sucked. If you start Glennon in reg season and he starts to play poorly, yank him immediately.
