Sneed hears rumbles Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is kicking the tires for a possible bid for mayor.
Word is Dart, who is now serving his third term as sheriff, is getting antsy; starting to refill his campaign coffers; revamping his website; and conducting a fundraiser Monday in Springfield — his old stomping grounds as a former state legislator.
“Tom didn’t do fundraisers last year,” a top Dart source said.
“But there is a lot of volatility going on, and he is in the process of making a decision of what to do next,” the source said. “Tom has five children and raising a big family makes Chicago an easier base.”
A history note amidst the current disenchantment amongst many black voters: In 1992, Dart won the 28th House District seat, which was 64 percent black, beating black incumbent Rep. Nelson Rice, who was backed by heavyweight African- American politicos Lemuel Austin and Bill Shaw.
• Smote the remote! If Dart wants attention at his Springfield fundraiser, he’ll get it: the site he’s chosen, the Celtic Mist, is the only pub in town that doesn’t sport a TV set!

DeleteI like Tom Dart and glad he is running. But I can't vote for him. The way he is emptying the jail of violent criminals I cannot support him. He has been a great voice for the mentally ill but he is just too weak on crime for me. I do hope the best for him though.

DeleteHis reign as Sheriff has been disaster for taxpayers. One in 4 of his employees call of on a daily basis resulting in 68 million in overtime costs just in the last two years. How can he run for Mayor with his record??. Can anyone really point to anything he has accomplished except for grandstanding in almost any issue he think of. What has he ever done for the mentally ill other than whine he has to house them?

DeleteYou so full of shit. The guy that kilked Brianna was a pedophile. Her family put 6 six orders of protection against him which the Cook County Sheriff failed to serve him on 5 of them. He was in the CC jail and immigration notified the Sheriff twice they wanted him. The Sheriff still let him go. One week later he put two bullets in the her head of a 15 year old child. The fact is if it was not for Tom Dart she would be alive. I guess you can say it's just an isolated incident when its not your daughter or sister.

Her and three accomplices beat the guy to death and dumped him body in a dumpster. She was released last week on Darts electronic monitoring program. ReplyDeleteFather Pfleger's St. Barnabas participation on a panel discussion titled "Thou shall not murder" is wrong for our community.
ReplyDeleteFr. Pfleger has a history of making disparaging remarks our parishes, including St. Barnabas, and has also used the media to portray ALL members of OUR community as racist.
Father Pleger's position as a panelist will only serve to ensure that there will never be a true and productive discussion about violence in Chicago.
St. Barnabas Pastor Fr. Malloy is already on record stating that there is nobody neutral on Fr. Pfleger. This forum will do nothing to change anybody's position but it will give Fr. Pfleger a public platform to provide an opportunity to take a racial dig at our community and the police who protect us.
Fr. Pfleger's inclusion on the panel has already given him a head start to garner publicity for himself while unfairly brandishing our community as racist.
Fr. Pfleger has already effectively made it all about him. He is not serving as panelist to deliver a message or engage in true dialogue. He is using the opportunity to become the message. He has released almost daily public remarks under the guise of the Discussion to the detriment of our community and police officers.
He has referred to residents in Beverly and Mt. Greenwood who oppose his appearance as a panelist as racists.
Fr. Pfleger made a spectacle out of flying a flag promoting the movie Chiraq full staff on church property while flying an American flag upside down at half staff. Of course, Father Pfleger was portrayed in a positive light in Chiraq and served as a consultant and listed as the spiritual advisor on the film.
Meanwhile, the movie portrays all African Americans as repulsive, vulgar, violent, ignorant and promiscuous beings with no self worth.
When forced to remove the Chiraq flag, Fr. Pfleger then whined about getting more calls about the manner in which he flew the American flag illegally beneath the Chiraq flag than he does about killings in Chicago.
Fr. Pfleger neglected to acknowledge what the American flag is a symbol and many people fought and died for what the American flag represents.
Fr. Pfleger then complained to the media that it is racist cops who were behind recent ticketing of cars parked illegally in front of St. Sabina.
In his ego driven display of power he bragged to the media thathe called the crime plagued 6th District Police Commander at his home on a Sunday to complain about the parking tickets.
Incredulously, the overworked CPD immediately reported back to Fr.Pfleger insisting that there were only 2 tickets issued and the specific nature of violations.
Fr. Pfleger fails to point out the hypocrisy of calling a Police Commander at home about parking tickets when there are so many killings in Chicago.
Father Pfleger's massive ego has never allowed him to entertain the real reason that the overwhelming majority of people do not want him serving as a panelist in the upcoming discussion.
He is a disingenuous bore who seeks publicity for himself through creating controversy usually at the expense of others less much less savvy and frequently where the issue is not newsworthy.
Our community does not need a lecture from somebody who grovels to likes of Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright.
At this point it is not possible to have a true discussion about stopping the violence that affects our city.
The message "Thou shall not murder" has become the Fr. Pfleger Show-featuring the St. Barnabas, Beverly and Chicago Police racists.
As a lifetime member of the community and a member of the Catholic faith, I would urge all members of the community and law enforcement to refrain from attending the event. Please also urge those planning to attend to reconsider their decision.
The whole "Discussion" has turned into a sham. Your voices will be silenced by the panel and any type of protest is exactly what Fr. Pfleger and the media are hoping for add to their racist neighborhood, cop narrative.
I have never heard a good word about Dart from anyone. I know two people Dart got big jobs and they despise him. You would think they would be somewhat loyal. They say he is a total narcissist. But who knows I would probably vote for him just because hes from the neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteWe just arrested a regular the other day in cal park last name Baldwin. 74 arrests most serious rape conviction and two burglaries. 17 dangerous drug convictions. He had Sheriff bracelet on .he was in for a gg domestic punching his girls two front teeth out. The idiot was confined to his home and still managed to pick up a new felony. I really wish the sheriff would stop letting him out bad enough we have to deal with crazy judges.

DeleteElected officials like the Sheriff take an oath to uphold the law and perform the responsibilities of their office. Among those are enforcing laws in incorporated areas of the county, providing for the security of the County Jail and the Court system. Nowhere have I ever read about the duties of the Sheriff's office including administrating/investigating capital improvement projects like the proposed quarry in Robbins, providing social/bedding options for transgendered arrestees at the jail, filing lawsuits questioning morality of classified advertising on Craigs List, rescuing puppies, and other countless activities that make the sheriff's office the self appointed guardian of Cook County morality. The administration of the jail calls into question whether or not there is adequate security for personnel working there. The questionable hiring into top level management positions. There have been far too many lawsuits by employees that would infer something beyond a few disgruntled employees. Posts on this blog and others infer an environment of retaliation, some of which the Sheriff has admitted in radio interviews (viewable on YouTube.com). Mayor Dart, maybe if Robbins has an opening for that position.

A few points:
ReplyDelete1) Dart was wise to not run against Rahm. All the insiders knew post Daley was going to be a shit show because of the financial looting that Daley and the machine had done, which is why Ginger, Kevin Joyce, O'malley et al quit at the same time. Let Rahm and Rauner trudge through the necessary bankruptcies of the City, and CPS. Dart can slide in squeaky clean.
2) Of course Dart has to pander to the blacks. There are three major voting blocks in the city: blacks, whites and hispanics. You need two on your side as a mayoral candidate to win an election. Whatever is their latest issue, whether it be a poorly managed cemetery or black incarceration, you have to meet them halfway or you can't keep a coalition.
3) Recently, Preckwinkle has been thInking about running for mayor. This is unacceptable because the blacks already have a huge chunk of the county jobs and graft. If they get both, the great ship Chicago sinks. Only a creditable white candidate can dissuade her from running, because if she goes up against Dart, the Hispanics will win the mayors seat, and they HATE the schwartzen.
4) The 19th ward has been weakened with the aging out of the old Daley machine, and Rahm seriously weakened the clout in the ward, although he probably realizes his mistake at this point (even a complete prick needs a friend or two). Dart as mayor can strengthen the power of the community, which it needs to protect itself from the cancer to the north and east. Of course this is all sausage making, and it will reek of the usual shady deals, but it is nothing new.
5) Another year or two of murder in the streets in the black neighborhoods will convince the blacks that stop and frisk is a win win for the laws abiding ones that want to live in peace.
Maybe, but as a County-wide official, Dart has pissed off enough of the Sheriff's employees that could make a pretty big noise should he tries to run. On the other hand, he's always played the role of the media darling. Its one of the pukey things about him, kind of how Phil Donahue emasculated the entire male gender back in the 70's. Dart's portrayal of the sensitive, caring, sheriff has most in the media bullshitted. But Dart has never really been tested in a competitive election. Every position he's held has pretty much been handed to him. The last mayoral litmus test he begged off with "the family obligations, it takes too much time away from them" story. Well, his kids may be older, but the City's in shittier financial and social shape, especially south of Madison. And frankly, chumming it up with the Revs and the Lake front liberals makes winning a little uncertain, especially with a lot of the crap that's going on in Wrigleyville. Unless there's a terrific economic upswing in the City, where the tax base widens and Joe Citizen isn't getting screwed more than they already are, getting elected Mayor is literally like winning an ugly contest. Who wants it?

ReplyDeleteAll this Black Lives Matter and Hands Up Don't Shoot stuff could have been resolved back when it was determined that Michael Brown was, in fact, an overweight strong armed robber who NEVER raised his hands in surrender to Officer Wilson. We have/and had Federal officials, the Attorney General, President Obama, that pimp Missouri Governor Rockefeller who could have put a stop to the subsequent rioting by telling the Missouri mobs that what rioters alleged, never happened. Instead, these pandering pieces of shit, allowed rioting to go on, demonstrations that called for police murders, and further rioting to occur. Additionally, instead of calling the rioting and looting for what it was, the Obama administration let Eric Holder loose on the Ferguson Police Department. Subsequent rioting in New York with the demonstrators chanting "What do we want?" - "Dead Police" - "When do we want them?" - "Now" was allowed by pandering Mayor Bill DeBlasio who went to the media to tell of warning his mixed raced son that he might be killed by the police. This was followed up by Baltimore States Attorney Mosley indicting 6 Baltimore officers for the suicidal actions of drug dealer Freddy Gray who through himself against the walls of a paddy wagon he was transported in and broke his spine. All of course the fault of the Baltimore city police. This is the world we are now forced to live in, all traceable back to our President, who stated Travon Martin could have been him, or his son, or whatever the hell he was trying to express in continuing this pandering fiction.
DeleteAnd so now, the candidate for States Attorney has to deal with the angry mobs at her fund raiser. Mobs that I suspect were organized by the President of the Cook County Board and her chosen candidate for States Attorney. You can't make stuff like this up. Its real, and the deer in the headlights response of our political leaders, local, state and federal has brought us to where we are.
There should be no wonder or surprise that we, the collateral damage of all this bullshit, are looking for outsiders to replace those who let all of this happen to us.
