The new ice arena is now open and I must admit the place looks good. Ald. O'Shea transformed a long neglected area of the ward into a destination for hockey leagues. A job well done.
Mike Sheahan served as one of the best aldermen in modern times. He also was a great sheriff. I saw him last week at a local football game. He is always concerned about the kids and always interested in their athletic performance. You can't meet a nicer guy. I can't think of a more fitting way to honor a guy who has given so much to the neighborhood.
What about Ginger Rugai? What can we name after her?

DeleteBeverly Arts Center.
DeleteBeverly Arts Center is kinda a disaster. I don't think she should be associated with that. Perhaps a bigger accomplishment she should be noted for is the Ag school.
DeleteLets build a Ballerina Center and name it after Sheriff Tom Dart.
ReplyDeleteHe's gotta be dead first. Ridge Park would be a better fit for him. Coached there for 35 years.
ReplyDeletehe doesn't have to be dead. Thats nuts.
DeleteLets name both Ridge Park and the ice arena after him.
DeletePark district policy. Don't think there's away around it. Same with schools. Only government agency that allows it is Cook County. That's why Stroger hospital was named while he was alive and the George Leighton Court House was named when he was alive as well. I suppose the CPD Board could change the policy.
DeleteName the arena after Marty Walsh a true 19 ward legend!
ReplyDeletewho is he?
DeleteGood idea....and good job to Matt O'Shea.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should start a petition! Also. I think we should name the Beverly Branch Library after Jerry Joyce. He did a lot for this neighborhood and no one read more books than him! When I was growing up, there was a book store on the corner of 95th and Winchester. Saw that guy there all the time.

DeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I have not visited, yet. I like it, though. I am happy that it is here.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
