CONGRESSMAN GUTIERREZ REFERS TO STEINLE MURDER IN SANCTUARY CITY AS "A LITTLE THING"
CHICAGO - Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez (IL-04) told Telemundo this week that the recent murder of a San Francisco woman by a felon that had been deported five times was a "little thing."
"Every time a little thing like this happens, they use the most
extreme example to say it must be eliminated," Gutierrez told Telemundo.
extreme example to say it must be eliminated," Gutierrez told Telemundo.
Gutierrez was defending sanctuary cities like his own Chicago, in which law enforcement are not allowed to ask a person's immigration status.
However, a recent Rasmussen poll says 62% of likely voters think the Department of Justice should take legal action against sanctuary cities, and only 26% are against penalizing this cities.
Donald Trump has joined the call, saying ‘I believe sanctuary cities are a disgrace. They are a disgrace and most people never heard about them until last week.’
Some 10 cities in the country currently give protection to undocumented immigrants, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston.
