These problem of stopped trains could easily be alleviated by Cunningham filing a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission. Cunningham won't do that because he looks forward to receiving continued contributions from CSX. Meanwhile, since the neighborhood residents didn't give Cunningham $5000, they can be dammed.
The electorate has been described by our leaders as a "basket of deplorables", "garbage" and "scoundrels". Besides that, they do truly care. Trust me when I tell you that this is the prevailing attitude among a majority of our political leaders. Dat's why they call them the "Elite" don't you know.

Increased CSX train traffic has been made possible by contributions to Sen. Bill Cunningham
CSX Corporation has made a business decision to triple the amount of train traffic through the neighborhood because of the lack of any meaningful inquiry by the guy that is supposed to be looking out for us. Every afternoon and evening there are trains stopped at 99th st, 103rd, 107th st., waiting for the Metra trains to cross further north. Note that these trains don't dare block 95th street because Evergreen Park Mayor Sexton will ticket them. So what does CSX do? They block the 19th ward streets instead. They know there won't be any enforcement here. They gave $5000 to the state senator.

The problem with this blog is that it is very misrepresentative of the community. The Joyce post went from 3 to 1 comments and mine never appeared. At this point, I am taking everything that I read here not with a block of salt but an entire freight train of salt trucks.
ReplyDeleteIt would be foolish otherwise.
You must be a Cunningham supporter.
DeleteNaive and inaccurate assumption about me.
DeleteI do not understand. There are so many substantive issues right now: ease of opening and doing business in this wacky City and State. Photo enforcement. Speed camera scandals (is the attorney general investigating? What is going on at that office all day?). Unemployment. Excessive taxation. Waste. Pension reform. Rising property taxes. Cost of and access to education. Crime! Real corruption.
Instead, if I come here, you would think that we in the 19th ward are naive enough to think that Sen. Cunnigham has caused Chris Christie-like increased rail traffic jams? Is this all you got on him? I am not sure if this is even a serious criticism or not.
Not defending Cunningham. Just cannot believe this is the focus. Seems like a SNL skit, "you, Senator, increased rail traffic!" Rail traffic has increased substantially. Amtrak owns many of its rails, but shares a lot as well. Remember when Buffet bought into the rails? I wish that our state Senator has this kind of wizard power to increase (and decrease too?) rail traffic.
... this is silly.
Buffet's billion-dollar investments in rail in 2009. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/06/22/the-truth-behind-warren-buffetts-billion-dollar-ra.aspx I remember reading about this years ago.
DeleteFreight travel increasing. The rail industry has these like ... side rails?... where the commuter trains step aside for freight. Freight rail is INCREASING like everywhere. http://www.railwayage.com/index.php/intermodal/gains-again-for-us-freight-traffic.html
Add to the substantive issue list: BULLET TRAIN. We have a huge country and would benefit form a bullet train. Where is it?
... I think people in the 19th ward are more intelligent than you give them credit for, Murph.
And I think you are more intelligent than all of us. Bullet Trains. Why didn't I think of that.
DeleteCunningham voted yes on speed cameras. SB965. I messaged murphy from evergreen park who is cunningham's opponent. He's against speed cameras and will fight csx
DeleteCSX gave the 19th Ward Democratic Organization $5000.00 between June 2008 and July 2013.
ReplyDeleteCunningham is such a rascal. He should give the money back and do something about the stopped trains.
ReplyDeleteSell out. This was never a problem when Maloney and Kevin Joyce were in there.
ReplyDeletemurph.. get your facts straight,
ReplyDeletethese trains do block 95th street very often as well not just the 19th ward, Cunningham has nothing to do with this, we didn't sell anyone out, they block all of our streets
Explain why the big donations?
DeleteHush money.
DeleteMurph thank you for your kind words about me but in all honesty you give me to much credit. I had never even met Pat Quinn prior to the 2010 primary election. Johnny O had a relationship with Quinn through John's wife Trish who is a grade school teacher. Johnny O put together a great election day operation for Quinn in the 19th Ward and Worth township with well over 100 all day workers. I did get very heavily involved in Quinn's general election. Quinn made over a dozen appearances where we requested him and we held a rally for him at my law office the weekend prior to the election. We also worked the train stops with him the day before the election. I don't think anybody thought Quinn was going to win and he was even down in his own internal polls the night before the election. Scott Lee Cohen ended up taking votes from Brady which allowed Quinn to win. Now Quinn is up 4 points in his own polls but I have no idea who is going to win. Quinn needs to get the normal white males who carried preceints in mt. Greenwood for Romney over Obama to vote for him over the socially liberal, anti union, jewish billionaire. Sorry for rambling. Thanks again and thanks for not allowing anonymous cowards to take cheap shots at me. Mike joyce
ReplyDeleteWhile stopped at 95th east of Rockwell, trying to go west, the thought occurs to me about the many ambulances on their way to Christ or Little Company of Mary Hospitals. And Im thinking, if I need emergency care, a stroke, heart attack or whatever, and the train is chugging through the intersection with an overload of cars being pulled, who will my family hold responsible if they don't get me to the hospital before I expire. There really should be an overpass there like they have on 111th Street, west of Cicero.
ReplyDeleteLook Bill...sorry senator Cunningham,
ReplyDeleteyou look foolish coming on here trying to defend yourself,
you and your comrades took thousands of dollars over the past few years, in return you have allowed the times and the volume of rail transport to substantially increase, problem is they are now getting excessive and at some point more and more people are going to die from the delay of: ambulances, fire trucks or police response because of blocked thoroughfares and you folks cant do anything now, or they...CSX etc. will cry foul!
you see Bill...once you get paid off you can never reel them back in or they point out how you were bribed to begin with.
you reap what you sow
northbound Union pacific train at 12:30 today. I counted 28 tank cars. Nice.
ReplyDelete28 is not too bad if they're moving.
DeleteThey said 28 TANK CARS not 28 trains. We don't know how many trains except thats its allot. Say 40 trains a day? Say 28 tanks on each train? Thats over 1000 tanks every day. Thats allot of dangerous chemicals rolling through the neighborhood.
