ILLINOIS POLICY INSTITUTE PICKETED BY SEIU PROGRESSIVE INCOME TAX SUPPORTERS
SPRINGFIELD – Protestors bussed in by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) marched on the offices of the Illinois Policy Institute in Springfield Tuesday (video HERE). The group called on the Institute to stop "false attacks" on how the proposed progressive tax system would affect Illinois taxpayers.
The group's press statement accused llinois Policy Institute of serving as a conduit for the national State Policy Network, a group they say is financed by "America’s wealthiests corporate interests," including billionaires David and Charles Koch. From the press release:
"The Illinois Policy Institute is responsible for many false attacks on the Fair Tax, including claims it would raise taxes on low- and middle-income families—claims which have been thoroughly debunked," the group said. "The truth is that a Fair Tax – implemented with a rate structure proposed by the Fair Tax Act’s chief sponsor, Sen. Don Harmon – would cut taxes for 94% of Illinois residents, including everyone making up to $205,000."
Illinois Policy Institute's calculations show the progressive tax will cause taxes to go up dramatically if the state's income tax rate is allowed to return to its 2011 levels. From those projected 2011 rates, if the progressive tax system is set into place, any taxpayer over $22,000 annual income will face an income tax hike. And the smart money will vacate Illinois just as they are fleeing California now. This proposal is the ultimate socialist power play. If it passes, Illinois is finished forever.
The faith leaders "A Better Illinois" gathered in February in a Chicago church to promote progressive tax:
Where they going to go? This is the best deal in town.
ReplyDeleteIf it's additional tax it can't be a good deal for us non collectivists.
ReplyDeleteThe wealthier are already doing it now. They buy a property in Indiana, claim it as a primary residence and buy a second home condo in downtown Chicago. And besides the taxes on the condo, they don't have to contribute one dime of their income tax to Illinois.
ReplyDeleteTypical communism 101 tactics. Have your fired up union pal go to his union site....see what they promote, what words they use, etc...then have him go to the Communist party web site. Show him/her the glaring similarities.
ReplyDeleteEven if you are a permanent out of state resident, but work in Illinois, you still pay the difference between that state and Illinois income tax.
ReplyDeleteAnd so what if someone owns a house out of state and a condo in Illinois. Good for them. They're paying taxes. What's your beef, you haven't taken enough?
These progressive tax comments are pure envy. If I work and earn more, I'm already paying more as a percentage. Why do I have to pay a higher percentage for being successful?
Guess what, your elected politicians and unions promised you pie in the sky and you bought it hook line and sinker. Then they stole every dime of your pensions and now you want someone else to pay for it.
Piss off!
I've got my own bills to pay and I'm tired of being told I should pay yours as well. That its only fair. That's commie talk you pinko statist envy filled taker.
This is really the brainchild of the leftists in Illinois both activists, "community organizers" and union socialists. These people are seriously brainwashed and the above comments hit it right on the head. Unions and nonworkers as well as socialist Democrats - get your hands out of my pocket. This is a blueprint for further erosion of the business climate in ILLinois and more misery. If you make even 18K per year you will pay MORE....how many times can these Democrat socialists lie to you and still believe them ? It is insane. They are driving the producers OUT of Illinois...after all it is still legal to MOVE your business OUT. Then you get NOTHING...zip...nada...dumb a**es.
