Except if you live in an area that is impacted by construction. Majority of those East of Western voted in opposition of street closure. But opinions were completely ignored.
Wait till all the inner city filled city provided buses show up and none of "our" children will be able to use the place. Mark my words, you can take it to the bank!
IF you have to pay to use it then we will probably have a nice facility to use. Certain elements will not pay a dime to use a facility as there are so many "free" ones available. So True News is too pessimistic. All you have to do is charge some people a fee of some kind and they disappear. The very concept of paying for anything is truly foreign to them. I think it is a great move and those who live nearby already live nearby Western Ave. That is a pretty busy street already. There used to be a grocery story kiddie corner from there and it did not destroy the livability of the community. I don't remember any huge traffic issues with the grocery so don't worry about this....if it is local folks you can expect little in the way of inconvenience or disturbances. Matt O'Shea deserves some credit here. We need the facilities.
If you're children skate or play hockey, and MANY kids in this community do, then they will be the most frequent patrons of this place. Stop the negativity. Just sign your kids up and show up, and everything will be fine.
If there was such an interest in having a rec center of sorts for hockey/gymnastics, they why didn't a private company come in to build it and profit off of the interest. Probably would provide a better product as their success would be dependent on the results. Now we have another government agency building a government building. Not something tax dollars should go towards. And the pervious poster is correct, there will be undesirables looking for free use of the facility. Since it is a government run facility, the politicians will fold and grant the free use. This isn't cynicism, this is the truth and it always works this way. Take your kids to a suburban facility, it is will most likely be run better.
You know... I am starting to miss Daley and Rugai. I have seen "changes" to this ward that displease me: photo enforcement, excess ticketing, violent crime spikes, and more.
Sorry if this does not excite me all that much. I would be disingenuous if I were to suggest otherwise.
They hate the snow and ice. It is Superintendent Garry McCarthy's prophylactic measure to prevent crime. OK. Now I can tell that I have been reading these blogs too much lately.
By the way, Murph, great posts on Dart. I think we should all be proud that he is from our community and the work that he does.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, it seems that there are some people that hope that this venture fails. Please move. You are a detriment to our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteNever knew that ice hockey was popular in the ghetto.

I took my kids to the ice rink at Mt. Greenwood Park and must say I never saw any urban ghetto thugs hanging around ice skating...
