CHICAGO - Officials with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) admitted today that problems with their new Ventra fare system have cost taxpayers $1.2 million in free rides.
The CTA says it will pursue reimbursement from Ventra's vendor, Cubic Transportation Systems Inc., which indicated it will reimburse" the CTA.
The estimate covers the time period from Oct. 1 to Dec. 19. The CTA says more than 900,000 bus rides and 21,000 rail rides were free "because Ventra fare readers were not functioning correctly."
Not unlike government officials pronouncements about the Obamacare website, CTA officials say Ventra is doing better. They say performance has improved as it continues to monitor the new system.

How many people were denied promotion in CCSO based off of "discipline" history? Newly promoted Sgt. in courts took a week for shooting his wife. Negligent shoot, person hit, time given yet still juiced up enough for promotion. God I love this department!

ReplyDeleteI have followed the constant attack on Bob Kelly, President of ATU 308 by the career grifter Forrest Claypool and his Chinaman Du Jour Rahm Emanuel for years. This latest attempt to sully a real labor leader is evil. The wedge issue this Christmas season has been the cTA jobs for felons program of which Local 308 had no participation, discussion or credit.
Claypool ( Bombardier Wheels that Don't Fit the Rails, Ventra & etc.) is a gutless creep (IMO) and has enlisted citizen Michael Pfleger to publicly attack Bob Kelly. Pfleger is calling for a full assault in the media and with his ever ready street full of anger folks.
I have written about this unfair, unjust and cowardly public attack on Bob Kelly. Bob Kelly and I have never met.
I have a legion of reader ( Mom thinks I;m mean to Claypool). You guys are the real deal. Please lend your honest eys and ears to the war on labor by the Progressive Machine. At least, give Bob Kelly a call at ATU local 308 and get some of his thoughts.
This could brighten everyone's New Year with some bullshit-free journalism.

CTA had these over 145 positions open for the last year. They never filled them until we pushed the issue. I never said the program had to end. All I have ever stated was any talks/negotiations had to be done with CTA and not the public or media. Forrest Claypool has refused to talk with the elected union leaders of this local since December 20, 2012. Not one conversation. We are glad CTA followed our advice and transferred the apprentices to the open positions. It is about time they filled them!!

After weeks of public disagreement between Chicago Transit Authority officials and union leaders over a program that has given felons jobs cleaning rail cars, a transit agency spokesman said Wednesday night that workers from the program would be transferred into jobs cleaning buses.
