Professional Politicians

Is it just me? Looking around at all these governmental problems and I start thinking, do we need some new blood? Is it really a positive thing to having the same people returning to the same public office, year after year? What's their motivation to try to do a better job? If it's so good, why doesn't private industry do it?

Look at Sen Dick Durbin, 3 terms now and aiming for another. Tom Dart, 2 terms already and planning to run again. Richie, 22 years.... By the time he left, he was so burned out he didn't care what happened. Locally, we are coming off a twenty year plus alderman. Is any of this good?

I could not disagree more on Tom Dart. First, two terms is nothing. How does two terms make someone a "career politician"? Didn't George Washington serve two terms? I have no idea why Madigan and his dynasty and allies, the epitome of career politicians, and their semi-rival Daley are not mentioned. Just bizarre, a profound oversight, or something else?

Second, Dart was a defender of homeowners and tenants in foreclosure during the persistent, ongoing housing crisis. Frankly, I hope Tom Dart considers office on a national level, where his integrity could have a more far-reaching impact. Dart, doing what he could as sheriff---I never met him and have no idea who his political allies are (could be Madigan for all I know)---prevented illegal evictions of homeowners and tenants in foreclosure. He commands my respect for that; and he should command yours.

Frankly, impose term limits on Madigan, have Dart run for governor and ultimately president; those are term limits that I agree with.

    1. Tom Dart may be a wonderful guy but I still think we need term limits.

Dart is a narcissistic individual whos agendas while in office are to promote his further "political career". The people shouldnt have "career politicians". These type of politicians arent serving the people for the good of the state or country, they are egotistical power hungry individuals who arent capable of seeing themselves as citizens. The entitlement to everything that we the people must abide by, they are exempt from. Dart is nothing more then a power hungry, vindictive, and narcissistic person, he reminds me of Blagovich.

Daley does look beat out. Over twenty years of stealing does that to a man.

To say that just because Dart is in his second term as Sheriff he is not a career politician is a joke. He was appointed to fill Jeremiah Joyces seat in 1991 and became a State Rep from 1993-2003. He then joined up with Sheehans office before becoming the Sheriff. Regardless of what you think of him good or bad - he is clearly a CAREER politician. And he has been quoted many times how he supposedly gave up a lucrative career (we'll never know) in the private sector for "public service".
