More problems at Mt. Hope Cemetery

A brush fire has been burning for the past 6 hours resulting in the evacuation of elderly and children. More proof that this little piece of real estate in unincorporated Cook County, needs some regulation.

It certainly does need regulation and owners who are concerned about more than profit. Things are better, but funerals still enter from 115th street creating a traffic nightmare. The only traffic control on 115th street is on Saturday when a county sheriff directs traffic. 115th St. needs a traffic light and stop signs. There is nothing to control the flow of traffic between Western and Kedzie. It can be a mess and dangerous.

That fire has re-ignited at least 4 times by now since it first started, the last time being around 6 AM this morning (8/21) with helicopters circling and hovering above again and more ash fallout covering the neighborhood. Is anybody investigating WHAT exactly is burning up in that dump heap (regardless of who set it ablaze)? I have always wondered what the cemetery is dumping (and maybe hiding) back there in that forested area (remember Burr Oak!)...
There definitely needs to be more oversight/inspection of this place! I KNOW that a few years ago, they moved a lot of very old headstones to different areas, so not all is 'kosher' in that place!
