A trip to the Shrine of Christ the King at 64rd and Woodlawn for 10am mass is well worth the trip. Great experience.

Fr. Anthony Brankin...formerly of St. Thomas More offers the Latin Mass at St. Odilo parish in Berwyn. He is the best.

  4. Nothing wrong with the old Latin Mass, Gregorian chant, and the tradition of Centering Prayer. Wouldn't mind seeing it every now and then, even in my parish. The commentator's linking of church decline with the Mass in local vernacular is laughable, though. His statement that Church fundamentalists are the true and faithful Catholics is offensive.

  5. State Senator Bill Cunningham on Obamacare! Says the act will be a "HUGE BOOM to Small Businesses and tells a group of Seniors it will be great for them too!

John Presta, who helped found the discussion group with his wife, Michelle, said to Cunningham. “These insurance exchanges are going to start—I don’t pretend to know a lot about it … So, if you could kind of explain to us exactly how the process is going to work.”

It’s very simple, Cunninham said. People who are uninsured or underinsured, individuals or companies that do not have insurance plans or that have them and they’re too expensive for their employees, jump into a statewide pool, with the whole idea of, like anything else, you pool your resources, you get a better price and better healthcare outcomes for people involved.” Negotiations are under way to bring together different groups opposed to various portions of the bill,

So I think it’s a good thing,” Cunningham said. “At the end of the day, it’s going to get more people insured at lower costs. And I think it’s going to be a huge boom for small businesses and individuals who are self-employed who are spending a lot of money now to insure themselves. They are going to be able to do it at much lower costs.”

Cunningham is just repeating his talking notes. He has never had an original thought. A true idiot in the finest 19th Ward tradition.

The only difference between Cunningham and the rest of the Zombies is that he does not eat flesh. He eats whatever Komrade's Durbin and Madigan feed him with his Kool Aid.

I think people mistakenly believe it is more spiritual if mass is in Latin. The irony is that the word catholic comes from Greek, katholikos. The other irony is that Jesus spoke Aramaic. The eastern half of the Roman empire spoke Greek. Greek was dominant in the liturgy of the early church. Latin became the language of the church in the late 300s until Second Vatican Council. Latin Christianity then became very distinguishable from Greek Christianity, and the Latin theologians such as Augustine became THE theologian.

Latin is a dead language--you are said to "read and write" Latin as opposed to "speak and read" or as with other languages. I see the Latin theology going along with papal primacy . . . then of course medieval piety (worship of saints and relics instead of venerating martyrs, etc.). The liturgy should be that of the people, not an incomprehensible clergy language (Latin).

If you like Latin, go for it. It seems a bit hooky to me, even cultish and pretentious. In a word, silly. In another word still, unnecessary.

If so hooky...why is it still offered as a language choice in High School?
