This is going to piss some people off!

This is going to upset some of the working stiffs and people working in private industry. Look at some of the names of people getting multiple government pensions.

The purpose of a pension is to support one in retirement, not to amass wealth through strategic job hopping.

  2. You know what urks me? Two or three days ago the police union came out with their proposal for raises, and a "stipend" since they have to live in the city. No comment from you, Murph, esp. in light of all the teacher diss? No comment from anyone?

    1. Hey MPots, why don't you enlighten everyone with what is on your mind.

This is what's on my mind. Consider yourself enlightened.

MPots is obviously a teacher. I can usually tell by the hard left Republican hatred that is nearly universal in that once proud profession. The rise of the left in Education in America is also in direct correlation with falling test scores, higher drop out rates, lowered expectations, politically naive radicalism and ruined lives.

To soften my last post - MPots I suspect you are probably among the good teachers, and there are many. The problem with every union is it protects, if not rewards inadequacy. Ultimately an individual or group will eventually be measured by the performance of the organization. The public school system, at least in Chicago, is a failure factory and such terrible outcomes should result in mass firings, total reorganization, or at least reexamination of money paid versus results. Instead they ALL got raises.

    1. Thanks for the attempted mind-meld, but I'm not a teacher -- I have neither the patience nor the will to put up with the strangeness that is the CPS.

I do know teachers, and I know what they go through. I know cops, too, and what they go through. The fact that there has been no comment on this blog concerning proposed police raises tells me that bile directed towards teachers is basically racist and sexist.

Given the murder rate, you would think that you could apply the anti-union reasoning to the police force, but no. No failure factory there.

You know I used to work for the County, punched doorbells for Hynes then after Stroger got elected we got thrown under the bus by a elected county official who didn't back Stroger and was livid that Hynes didn't back her.

I look at these listings and it nauseates me to see the water boys get $50,000 in retirement. One guy who was a Hynes Captain gets $182,000. All the non political people who were brought in and thought political people were morons since they punch door bells for a guy like Hynes are all getting $60,000+ with 10 years before they got voted out. Those people couldn't walk and chew gum and many of them went to law school.

The bottom line is that people in government in this state county and local level get a whole lot more for a pension than their equivalent in the private sector. That doesn't have anything to do with the State’s pensions being underfunded? Everyone should move out of the state and sit back and watch the whole thing collapse on them.

I also notice that police and fire don’t have quite the gravy train.

First, thanks to the BGA and Murph for this data that should help people in the 19th ward how hundreds of their friends and neighbors are contributing to the collapse of our pension systems in Illinois and now we are the worst state in the nation financially. I took the liberty to peruse 15 to 20 annuitants locally and one can see how the abuse will cause the coming collapse. For starters there are retired elected officials of five or more north of a 150 k. One hanger on phone caller and door bell ringer north of 100k from two pensions. Two judges I know of north of 1 150 k. Perhaps the biggest joke are probably 50 or more TRS(burbs) who scammed with so called bum ups and now gym rats and spec. ed teachers enjoying 85K plus. How about
Fireman chiefs at 100K plus. There are several wives of connected types who worked at various do nothing jobs and got vested and receive 15 k for maybe 10./12 years of so called work. Regular police, fire and teachers you know the worker bees who didn't kiss ass getting fair pensions from 25 k to 65k for over 30 years of blood sweat and tears. I know a handful of judges at 150k plus and c'mon gimme a break. Check out the big hitters in the ward and try to sleep tonight.

It is out of control. I learned about all of this a few years ago, and it completely shocked me. The salaries shocked me, but the pension abuse shocked me the most.

It is amazing that these abuses have not been exposed much sooner.

Just one sample of the madness and unethical conduct here in Cook County. There are over 200 hundred Shakman exempt positions in Dart's shop and not a one critical to the mission. In short more of a drain on our purse and the County pension system. Many 19th warders Shakman exempt and connected to the aforementioned families above. Burke's kid ,however,
on the job at well over 60k. The ole man paid handsomely.

Unrelated to pension/salary post, but walking around this morning I could not help to notice that this is Washington's birthday
or as some prefer President's day and a federal holiday that is not being honored by the Chicago Public Schools. Catholic schools appear to be closed. Seems odd that a public school system dishonors are presidents, but does honor MLK. Clearly a mixed message to our young who scholars report are lacking in any measure of civic literacy
