Speeders

Out with the dog this morning and I watched 2 cars drag off the light at 103rd and Cal, west to the tracks. They must have hit those tracks at 80 mph. Now I know this is a big city but we should have a radar car visit the neighborhood every once and awhile.  Just once and a while.

111 th street is much worse in the mornings. 70 MPH is common every five minutes. Not a squad in site.

I don't know what you could possibly mean. There are so many Police Officers "protecting the neighborhood" how could this be?

Murph, be careful what you ask for. Speeding tickets are for the suburbs. I wrote just one in my long career. Traffic is just a way to catch real crooks.

    1. 80 MPH down a city street is a hazard.

I agree. there are alot of people who travel through the 19th Ward from the suburbs to get to the expressways and everyone drives too fast. Also the MOMS in their suv/minivans are also very bad. Cops are never to be found anymore. They used to hang on Western and get some people running lights and such - but never anymore. I used to see them going in the parks ALOT - but hardly ever anymore...but I hate to say it but I know where i CAN find them, most nights....yes it is 7-11 !! Giving YOU the stink eye ! It has gotten so I do not stop there as I feel they are looking me over and I feel like a suspect. Go out and catch the bangers, etc...it is called patrolling, try it...

I always hear disgruntled people say the 7-11 thing. I only see the police there after their roll calls when they start their shift. They are only human and do deserve a bottle of water!
      -Not a cop

Before you start a panic induced over reaction, this was one personal incident carried over for a second night between mostly Barnabas and SJF kids and some black teens from EP ! Noone was hurt and no real difference in this case than the types of summer fisticuffs I saw as a teen in the neighborhood. If they were from over East and came here on a "let's see what trouble we can start in the white neighborhood" I would be with you....

I ordinarily do not post here, but we really do not need a radar car in our community. Why tie up police resources?

True story (I will be brief): while in college I was helping a mayor campaign and doing a vote drive. The mayor mentioned to me that the biggest complaint were so called speeders. So she had officers stationed to ticket speeders. Just about all the speeders were from the community, and the biggest complaint then became getting tickets.

Thanks - but no thanks. We need police to handle real crime.

No, you need to fulfill your Oath of Office and Protect people in any way possible, including Traffic Enforcement and Accident Prevention, not shirk your responsibility with excuses to be lazy. Amazing how you can have Seat-Belt Missions to grab motorists to produce revenue, but can't make a Traffic Stop on someone driving negligently. You most certainly are Democrats as your logic is obtuse.

Maybe we just need more police.

  10. again we have a start to a under served community. over taxed and under served on many fronts. we can start by observing the simple rules of the road. I used to run down longwood and had many close calls at 5 am. we can make a difference together. keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to get involved. this is our neighborhood. be safe friends

I would bet my life that they weren't doing 80 MPH..although .I'm sure they were speeding. Overall , we need to just get more police on the street and be more visible. Also, if you want to complain about driving incidents, why not talk about everyone who STILL texts & drive while on their phones too...they are the biggest dangers to this & any community.

as I stated,if you would have read my whole comment.... I'm sure they were speeding, and they also were talking about 103rd street!!...but we have deeper problems than people going over the limit....just like anything else, you can't please everyone....

Maybe you should stop bitching about the police every chance you get and then they wouldn't be afraid to take their hands out of their freaking pockets.

There is little, or NO, Traffic Enforcement anymore in the Mt. Greenwood area. Time for the Alderman to get more Cops and Traffic Enforcement. Cars going down Local Traffic Only Aleys for decades without a SINGLE ticket written, cars going right thru Stop Signs on side streets on a regular basis, Speeding Everywhere, DUI's on 111 St. EVERY weekend between TR's and Hinky-Dinks, the ONLY thing these reckless driver fear are the Red-Light Cameras. Get with it 022 and start protecting the Taxpayers out here. You're NOT doing your jobs effectively or dilligently.

We, the Tax[payers of Mt. Greenwood, have the right to kn ow just how many tickets are written by the 022nd District, and for what. So lets go Politicians, post the Stats Online. We pay ALL your Salaries, and WE want to know EXACTLY what you are all doing to earn your salaries, paid for by US. Personally, as a Middle Class Taxpayer of the 19th Ward, I'd like to know EXACTLY how many tickets are written EVERY Month, in the area from 111th and Pulaski to 111th and Kedzie, to 103 and Kedzie, and back to 111th and Pulaski, and how DUI arrests were made around all the local Bars. Further, how many tickets were written for distracted driving / Driving and talking on Cellphones or Texting while driving ? Lets get with it, you Democrats Talk a good game, but SELDOM DO anything.

The simple truth is that Chicago police officers have little time for traffic enforcement or other self-initiated activity. They run from call, to call, to call, without a break. The suburban police might write four or five tickets per shift, but they only handle one or two calls.

Before you tell me about "all the police" at 7-11, I'll remind you that each officer gets a 30 minute lunch.

Another simply truth is that especially since Traffic Court moved to Daley Center, cops don't want to go Traffic Court since it costs so much to park and all your cases go to Traffic Safety school

As I taxpayer, I do not want radar/photo enforcement in my community.

Our businesses that have a camera on their street will see a decline in business if this happens. It's a bad move.

Will the revenue made in our ward be paid/given to our ward?
