Durbin is such a dick. I can't believe anyone would vote for such an obvious bum.

Dick Durbin - never, ever cared about the interest of the 19th ward. Needs to be voted out.

19th warders take note. Your house is going to flood, all because of coal. Remember Dick Durbin predicted it. Either pass federal regulations now or flood next month. I wonder who gave him some contributions.

Illinois may face another year of rough weather

It may be another stormy year for Illinois, according to climate experts.

The environmental advocacy group Environment Illinois predicts the extreme weather that affected 96 percent of Illinoisans last year may strike again in 2012.

In the study released Wednesday, researchers say that the nation should expect to see more cases of severe weather including droughts, floods, snowstorms and tornadoes. They say the most likely reason for the upswing in weather emergencies: climate change.

“Our report doesn’t suggest that any single weather event was caused by global warming,” said Max Muller, program director for Environment Illinois. “But we do know is that every weather event that takes place, is taking place within a climate system, and global warming is loading the dice. It’s making it much more likely that we will have more severe and more frequent extreme weather events.”

Scientists have noted a correlation between global warming and cases of extreme weather in the past. Since 2006, approximately four out of five Americans have been affected by federally declared weather-related disasters. During that same time, Cook County was the scene of four of those disasters, including the blizzard of 2011.

"We know it’s going to get worse, but the scary thing is we don’t know how much worse it’s going to get," said Ray Pierrehumbert, University of Chicago professor of geophysical sciences.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) called for more attention to climate change on a national level.

“We need to have an open and honest discussion about climate change and what we can do about it," the Illinois Democrat said. "These things are not just coincidence. As far as I’m concerned there is something profound that is happening. It has an impact on our lives every single day and it certainly has an impact on the government.”

Extreme weather has been costly to home and business owners and to taxpayers who have paid for weather related damages totalling roughly $55 billion.

Both Environment Illinois and Durbin support the Obama administration's plans for reducing carbon emissions in power plants through heat-trapping pollutants and establishing vehicle efficiency standards by 2025.

"President Obama is on the right track, increasing the fuel efficiency of the cars and trucks we drive means the same amount of miles and less fuel burned, less pollution," said Durbin.

  6. This guy just makes me puke. He's such a pandering piece of sh$t. I also will never have the same opinion of the University of Chicago. They are trying to sway us on just 140 years of data. Dirty Dick Durbin needs to go down.We already are watching the demise of the coal industry. All those windmills down I-55 , at 3 million a crack haven't turned a profit but what the hell lets put up more. Don't forget all those solar collectors, they'll pay for themselves in 20 years. oh yea forgot to tell to tell you, they all need to be replaced after 10 because of overheating and weathering. But thanks to dirty dick we need more and stop ALL oil and coal......

END OF THE WORLD THEY ARE COVERING IT UP!!

Fukushima Daiichi Site: Cesium-137 is 85 times greater than at Chernobyl Accident

Many of our readers might find it difficult to appreciate the actual meaning of the figure, yet we can grasp what 85 times more Cesium-137 than the Chernobyl would mean. It would destroy the world environment and our civilization. This is not rocket science, nor does it connect to the pugilistic debate over nuclear power plants. This is an issue of human survival.
