Saved, the neighborhood? Are you out of your mind? The parade did nothing but cause problems for residents for the past 10 years. The only people happy to see the parade come back, besides the drunken out of towners (some from as far away as Iowa) were the bar owners and beer companies. IF THIS SI SUPPOSED TO BE A FAMILY EVENT, START IT OFF AT 103 & WESTERN AT 9AM ON A SUNDAY, AND MARCH WEST ON 103 TO PULASKI. NO BARS.
The bars are not the problem!! Do you really think less people are going to show up (especially the first year back) if the bars were closed? So you want thousands more on the streets? The bars have their own security, there are no teenagers getting drunk in there, and believe me, no fighting. Really, only the bar owners and beer companies are profiting? County Fair sells tons of corned beef leading up to the parade. What about Dunkin Donuts, Milanos, Fox's, 7-11? My family has had a get together with extended family before the parade for years, and the family who hosts it is very happy to see it back. They live 2 blocks off Western. Why is the parade the worst thing to happen here? Did you *GASP* see someone urinating outside? I saw I guy peeing outside @ 105th and Western when I was 12 (not parade day), and somehow I survived. Why doesn't the community work together to make this work, instead of screaming about how horrible it is. It's one day, get the stick out of your behind and get over it.
I wonder who Skinny is going to run for Alderman next election, Oshea must have really pissed skinny off with his reluctance of bringing back the parade !
Unfortunately it is not our parade anymore. It belongs to the roving bands of hedonists who use our community to party- and worse! By the way I could spend 10,000 words or more describing some of the most disgusting crap I have heard and seen. Public sex, defecation, puking suburban brats soiling our neighborhood. We do not need a parade - we do not need these outside sleazebags to make us feel like our community is important. Have your Family parties - noone is stopping you but please do not dismiss the concerns of family residents. I recommend recording some of the worst offenders and posting their behavior on Youtube ! I loved the parade once - but it turned ugly somewhere along the way and I heard a clear majority of people i spoke with tell me they were not sorry to see it go.
Sure, I'll buy skinny a drink. After he cleans up the feces, cans, bottles, food containers, etc left behind my garage and all over the rest of Campbell and Artesian. GFY, skinny! Furthermore, why should I be responsible for policing my neighborhood and confronting drunks & brawlers. Not my job. That's why we have a police department.
A statue honoring the brothers Sheahan, Mike and Skinny, should be erected on Western Av. in the median. One at 99th street the other at 111th street. Bronze statues. Nobody cares more that they do. And they have proven it. The other neighborhood great is Jeremiah Joyce. Lets not forget what he did either. There should be a statue of him in Beverly Park. Rename the park Joyce Park. Why not. ? They named a park after the husband of some female hanger oner, why not Mr. Joyce?
Some people need to take off the blinders and look around our community NOW. I took my daughter to Monroe Park last summer and was disgusted by the amount of trash. No, it's not my job and I shouldn't have to do it, but I pulled over a trash bin and started cleaning up. Think I counted close to 20 beer cans. There's a church behind me that has regular gatherings of teenagers drinking there during the summer. I clean up the beer cans in the alley as well. No, it's not my job and I shouldn't have to do it, but I don't think I'm too good not to. The police are called, the kids scatter, then it's the same thing a week later. Maybe if mommy and daddy took the blinders off years ago and taught their children some respect we wouldn't be having this problem now. Parade or no parade.
Perhaps the statues are a bit much but I think Mike and Skinny shouldbe honored in a way. Maybe name the arts center aftem em. Sheahan Arts Center. Just saying.
Nobody has done more to help the people of the 19th Ward than Skinny Sheahan. Skinny is a life long resident who loves this community. He is bringing back the South Side Irish Parade because it is a great source of pride for this neighborhood. Skinny would never support anything that would be detrimental to our community despite what Matt O'Shea says.
In his only published letter to Mayor Emmanuel Matt complains about the parade. Meanwhile our most precious commodity, our children, are being robbed at gunpoint on a weekly basis. Despite that, Alderman O'Shea has failed to write any letters to our Mayor voicing concern over the lack of police protection in this community on the other 364 days of the year.
Skinny Sheahan is a pro-life Democrat who wears his Catholicism on his sleeve. In order for him to maintain his credibility he must distance himself from the Pro-Abortion candidate Fran Hurley.
Fran got PAC money for her anti-life beliefs. She also is a supporter of gay marriage. How does the pastor of St. Christina support this heretic. Isn't that him with her in the bourbon street campaign kick-off photo on her web site. The hypocracy of her supporters is disgusting.
why do you blame the "Pollocks" for not wanting the parade...just face the truth of what it really is, its that a bunch of "drunken idiots " no matter what ethnicity come here and just get stupid and ruin something that was supposed to be an honored tradition. As a property owner, I'm just tired of having my property damaged. Its not like the city or parade sponsers have a fund to pay for these damages. If they do, let me know because last time it cost me over $400.00 to replace my fence!!!
I do not know Skinny Sheahan and have only heard of him in passing. I do know Mike Sheahan and found him to be a stand up guy - probably the last of his ilk who will represent us. If Fran Hurley is proabortion, and it sounds like she is if she is receiving money from proabortion groups, then we should get the word out. I am personally sick and tired of being represented by people who claim to be Catholics - "from your parish", while they take blood money from these radical groups. As I have stated before - while the 19th is a Democrat stronghold for power - there are ALOT of conservative minded business owners, Catholics and traditional family values people here. If we can expose Fran - she might fold. After all this election will not be (totally) controlled by the 19th Warders - it is the 35th District. Wake up the Pro-Lifers and let's find an alternative to Hurley. She is one true liberal ideologue.
To dispell any doubt about Fran Hurleys beliefs just google: personal pac endorsements. The mantra of this Anti-Life group is " vital to electing pro-choice candidates." Any half way intelligent candidate who is seeking to represent a predominately Catholic constinuency would have never applied for and taken this radical orginzations money.
Funny thing is Cunningham wasn't dumb enough to request and get their money /endorsement this time around. No candidate from 36 district requested the endorsement or money. The 36 district includes Holy Redeemer, St Catherines, St. Bernadette, much of Queen of Martyrs and other Catholic parishes. How could Matt O'Shea sell this radical liberal to Christ the King, Banabas, St.Cajetans, Queen of Martyrs, St. Mikes in Orland, et al. Apparently, judging by the number of Hurley signs in St. Christina and the suppory given to her by the pastor, church doctrine means nothing.
The election for "the smartest 19th Ward politician" posted on this blog is absolutely ridiculous. First of all, Dan Hynes does not even live in this Ward. Secondly, Mike Joyce is not a politician.

Well a few hundred more anti gun laws should be just the thing to stop that..
Wow it’s so odd that this person named anonymous has so many opinions. My Name is Anthony Montelione, like my father, and his father before him. I appreciate what all nine members of the Sheahan family have not only done for Beverly, but the entire city. It’s a better place, because of better people.

ReplyDeleteThe parade should never have been ended. The great thirst is over. Thank God for Skinny Sheahan.
ReplyDeleteThe Sheahan family has done so much for the neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteYou can kinda tell who the Pollocks are by reading their comments. They don't like the parade because they're Pollocks.
ReplyDeleteThat's "polack" you ignorant harp. A "pollock" is a fish.
DeleteThere are many Polish people at the parade.

ReplyDeleteThere needs to be a public airing of Fran Hurleys position on abortion.
ReplyDeleteWow! Skinny took the time to type twenty comments here. Statues, parks??? Give me a freakin break1
ReplyDeleteThey should rename 111th street, Sheahan Street, it would be named for both the brothers.
ReplyDeleteI didn't believe it until I saw it. The Pro-Abortion PAC did endorse Hurley:
