Joe Bird is gone. Qualifications mean nothing.

Joe Bird
A victim of the 19th ward political machine. His campaign for state rep gained no traction. People were afraid to be seen talking to him. The breaking point came when even the FOP rejected this highly decorated police officer. They said that "someone else can do a better job".

As an American of Irish heritage in the 19th Ward I am utterly sickened by what has become of our area politically. The Democratic Party that once looked after the interests of the middle class is now a group of people who are Socialists whether they realize it or not. I am so sick of hearing about "working families" - code word for union people - as if noone else works! Mr. Bird has guts that few people have in this area to stand up to these clowns. He is also clearly more roundly qualified than Fran Hurley. If someone were to put the resumes of these two together and removed the party affiliation it would be hard to argue Hurley was more qualified. Certainly her experience is not diverse - ie something called the private sector. (Lefty Democrats google that term) ! The truth is they are rapidly losing the power they once had and are in fact becoming stooges for the left wing militant black Democrat movement in our city and county. P.S. Fran was out heartily pushing Paddy Quinn - the taxaholic. I just did my taxes ....thank you Pat and thank you Fran for pushing for this jerk ...p.s.s... just a word of advice to you koolaid pushing door to door Democrat drones...plan on hearing some blow back when you try to push these taxing leftists at our doors...I for one will tell you where to go

Chicago Democrats, and all Democrats have always been Socialists, they've just been fooling the naieve and dumb for a long time. The Socialist News Media are their willing accomplices. The Labor Unions are the Goon-Squad Thugs of the Demo-Socialists. Pay more in Union Dues and increased Taxes than the raise you get after 4 years, and the narrow-minded old school "Democrats" [Socialists] think it's the greatest thing for working people. Remember P.T. Barnum said, " There's a Sucker born every Minute" . Guess who the Suckers are ? Aren't you glad some dope dealer or Welfare Breeder Mama is walking around right now buying "Free" [YOU paid for it] food, and talking on a "Free [YOU paid for it] cellphone, and just about everythin else "Free" [YOU paid for it] while YOU and your families are expected to keep paying more and more, and more, and working more and more and more, and getting less, and less, and less? ALL these Chicago/Crook County/ Illinois always have been, are now, and always will be, Thieves, Liars, and Con-Artists, but it's for "the childrennnn" , don't cha know ?

"Ask yourself who are you more comfortable with the party of Ronald Reagan or the party of Barack Obama?"

A Recession is when your neighbor loses his job.

A Depression is when you lose your job.

A Recovery is when Obama and the rest of the Democrats lose their jobs.

What exactly happened with Mr. Bird? Did he drop out, and did the FOP endorse someone else?

FOP endorsed Fran Hurley, the machine candidate.

FOP did the right thing. How could Joe Bird know whats best for everyone? Fran has the experience which is so critical. Joe should volunteer his time and get some experience under his belt. After that I'm sure O'Shea and the party would give him some serious consideration.

Fran has more experience than Sgt Joe Bird? That will be the day. That is the most insulting statement I have ever heard.

I agree that Bird no way has the experience it takes to get things done in Springfield. You have to be a leader and thats what Fran has. Leadership skills. O'Shea know whats best for all of us. He cares more than you could think. He made the right decisions.

Fran will stand with the working people - and then raise our taxes. I spoke with her during the last election - she was pushing Pat Quinn big time. The first and only question anyone should ask her is - "Why did you support Pat Quinn and his brutal tax increase during the worst recession of our lifetime?" Will you repeal it ? Of course she will not. A 67 percent income tax hike alone...not to mention the massive hike in the tollway fees....just to name a few... When your neighbor mentions the economy - make sure you let them know why their wallet is alot lighter...maybe a cool $1,000 or more... ask your friend? What could YOU have done with that money... what CAN'T you do now that these Democrats took your money... how many months of link card reimbursements did your money go for... so now no summer vacation ..no club league for your kid, etc.... thanks Pat,,, thanks Fran for supporting him !!

Madigan, the most evil of things in the Illinois Democratic Party of which he is the head of. Things will never change until you get rid of Madigan. It's his way or the highway.

It is true that Fran is liberal. It is true Fran was all around supporting Quinn. It is true Quinn and the Democrats rammed thru a 67percent tax hike on us all in the dead of the night near the very end of the session, using a lame duck legislature, many who had been voted out by the people, (Democrats) and who as a last insult to the voters voted for a huge tax increase. It is true Fran is supported, (controlled?) by the Democratic machine of the powerful 19th Ward. It is true that our other Rep Eddie Maloney all supported Quinn and the tax hikes. It is true Fran will go along with what THEY want, (another tax hike fee increase coming?) wouldn't bet against it. It is true we have the worst credit rating of any of the 50 States. It is true we have well over 9% unemployment in IL. The truth hurts....

  28. Anonymous1/20/2012

Take back Illinois !! Who says IL is a "blue" state? Yeah they have imported over 1/2 million new illegal immigrant voters who they have herded into the voting booth to help tip the scales in favor of the Democrats - but Brady came awfully close to beating Quinn (some say the Dem machine stole it). We can beat back the Socialist Obama radicals IF we have the guts to get involved. I for one am stepping out of the comfort zone whether my neighbors still want me at their back yard parties or not. Number one you need to point out to all the union people who are not working, or barely or rarely working - that Obama and the Democrats are ANTI business - listen to their rhetoric - they think business is the enemy. If Mr. Bird is gone - then who else is running ? Any info. would be helpful. There are alot of people in our neighborhood who are hurting - and want to get involved. Thanks in advance for any insight into who else can run?

I'm not positive, but I think Bird's name will still appear on the ballot, since he has already filed his nominating petitions.

  37. Being a former police officer (military) myself, I was very surprised that the FOP endorsed the "machine" candidate rather than one of their own who was highly qualified.

Please visit my website to learn more about me. I'm a veteran and have a diverse background including more than 20 years business experience that would well serve all the citizens of the 35th District.

Sorry Sgt. Bird's no longer in the race, though. In my research of the candidates, I kinda liked what he had to say. Continuing my research on Hurley, Martin, & Hodorowicz.
