The men in the South Pacific were bigger men because some of the landings were far more dangerous than D-Day.

In particular Peleliu and Tarawa. Eisenhower didn't want the Navy involved with D-Day. If the Marines made the landing at D-Day America would have been to Caan in 24 hrs.' like they were supposed do.

What is worse? to take on 20,000 Germany guys or 20,00 fanatical Japanese?

The US Amy air corps lost more men in WW2 than the marines did. The marines lost 24,511 men during WW2, the 8th army air corps (bomber division)alone lost over 26,000 men, by the end of WW2 the army air core had 16 different divisions. The life expectancy for a bomber crew was rather short with almost 7000 heavy bomber crews along with 1500 medium and light bomber crews being lost in WW2, when you consider a B17 crew was 10, a B25 was 11, a B25 was 6 and a B29 at 11 the bodies add up quick. A lot of brave men were lost but the facts show that the losses by the marines were lower than those suffered by the Army air corps

Exactly. The Marines are much better at what they do than the Army ground forces. Army Air Corps vs Marines amphibious is like comparing apples to oranges.
