A Failure to Lead

An unmitigated bully who will leave this state in horrible condition
SPRINGFIELD — As protesters shouted “budget first” outside the Illinois House chamber, Gov. Bruce Rauner on Wednesday promised big changes to the state’s education funding formula and its criminal justice system, all while minimally mentioning the budget impasse.

In his second State of the State address before the Illinois General Assembly, the Republican governor announced a push for Democratic Senate President John Cullerton’s pension reform legislation, urging both chambers to pass the bill legislation “without delay.”

Rauner also announced a 10-point education plan, which included working with Cullerton to increase state support for education, focusing resources on low income and rural school districts, without taking money away from other districts.

When Rauner got in, I believed he had the business sense and ability to create bipartisan relationships to put Illinois back on the right track. Not saying its all his fault, but his intransigence and lack of coalition building reminded me that he came from the corporate world of profit and loss. And in this world corporate dealing with loss amounts to layoffs and firings.
This is the man who owns 8 homes and bullshits on residency to send his kid to a selective enrollment public school. Looks like a one termer to me.

Not his fault....12yrs of Madigan and Cullerton. I don't get why everyone is blaming him. I hope he never gives in. If he gets one quarter of his programs through this State would be better off. Blame squarely on Democrats who controlled Illinois!!!!

It is very clear that you hate Rauner. Okay we get that. The question is...why? The Democrats have super majorities in both Senate and House for Illinois. We have huge deficits that are now forcing us to act. We have no choice. We have kicked the can down the road and into a dead end. We are at the end. Maybe future State workers should get an IRA just like the rest of us who pay the bills. This Spring we will see if he can lead. Til now the Democrats in Springfield are simply in denial. They think that they can continue to do what they have done. For example, since the recession, State spending has gone up and up every single year. Some programs will have to be cut back....at least for the time being. Just like my wife and I had to cut back on things for our family during the recession. This anti business climate and "rake over the taxpayer" mentality has reached the end. Millions voted for Rauner. Madigan is the problem. He has been there for decades and is the Chief architect in the financial mess we are in. Maybe give him a few budgets and see what happens. We know what will happen with the Democrats. Jobs bleeding out and remaining taxpayers getting screwed. The fact is that the State is in horrible condition NOW.

Rauner is truly evil. One of his proposals is to force AFSCME workers to actually work 40 hours BEFORE getting OVERTIME. The nerve of that heartless Capitalist!! I saw students from Chicago State Univ out protesting Rauner today. Democrat Mike Madigan is at LEAST fifty percent to blame.

You're typical 19th Ward B.S.... Rauner hasn't had a chance to lead and probably never will get a chance to lead. IL. is doomed..... 40 years of Madigan.....
