Dr. Eric M. Wallace and The Freedom's Journal Institute sponsored a symposium discussing abortion's devastating effects on society entitled In Defense of Life: Why All Lives Matter in Tinley, Park Illinois on Friday, July 31.
Presidential hopeful Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke to an enthusiastic crowd that was not necessarily Republican, but was in tune with Huckabee's message about a need for national repentance and defense of life. Gov. Huckabee hit

In his speech, Mike Huckabee established that there are three ways in which the country is in trouble:
The economy – the nation needs to fix the unemployment problems. It is not acceptable that men and women are having to take on 2 or 3 part time jobs just to stay even with where they were a decade ago. The loss of 5 million manufacturing jobs is not acceptable. That must be reversed.
National security – Gov. Huckabee acknowledged the heat he was feeling over his recent comments about Iran. He took time to repeat his statement on Iran and explained that in spite of the criticism he took, he would not walk back his position. He feels strongly that we should not be giving billions of dollars to a nation that chants "Death to America" hours after forging a deal with Sec. of State John Kerry. Defense of Israel is a moral imperative. As president, he would not stand by passively as a deal is inked with a country that vows the genocide of the Israeli people.
Moral clarity – This, Gov. Huckabee believes, is our nation's number one priority. He centered on the Supreme Court's recent redefinition of marriage, calling them the "Extreme Court" and admonished their judicial activism. He state firmly that poverty cannot be ended through government programs. The single greatest contributor to poverty is the breakdown of the traditional family. Traditional family, Huckabee confirms in this speech, is between one man and one woman. Further, he advocates that families must stay intact for the cycle of poverty to end.
The major themes of Huckabee's views on American decline:
"17% of African American children reach the age of 17 with both parents living at home. If a child grows up with both parents and graduates high school, that child has a 91% likelihood that he will never live in poverty."
"The child with Down Syndrome has the same intrinsic value as the captain with the football team…"
"If anybody can watch one of those videos and see those people trading body parts like they are cars and not feel repulsed…then that person has a seared conscience."
Governor Huckabee concluded his discussion by pointing out that he is used to hostile political environments having been governor of Arkansas, which makes Illinois look like a red state. During his tenure, he had a more diverse administration than Bill Clinton's and the most diverse in Arkansas history. He believes in governing vertically, taking the economy up instead of keeping it flat as the Dems have. He reminded the audience that he understands the soul of poverty because he grew up in poverty himself.
