Idioms and Phrases with hush money

hush money

A bribe paid to keep something secret, as in No amount of hush money willkeep that scandal from coming out[c. 1700 ]

I am suggesting that the $5000.00 in campaign contributions paid to Sen. Bill Cunningham from CSX Corp. and Grand Trunk RR, during the past few years, was intended to be hush money. Consider the following:

  • During the past 4 years, the number of trains using the CSX line has increased from 12 to 40 per day. That is an increase of over 300%.
  • That on any giver day over 1000 tank cars roll down the CSX line through through our neighborhood. Never is a word said about either the number of theses tank cars or their contents.
  • That there are numerous documented cases of ambulances and other emergency vehicles unable to get to their destination because of a stopped train.
  • That collectively, during the past four years, Sen. Bill Cunningham and other local politicians have accepted over $40,000 from CSX Corp and Grand Trunk RR.
  • That the Illinois Commerce Commission has regulatory authority over all railroads operating in the state of Illinois, yet Sen. Bill is silent on this issue.
  • That CFD has a standing order to transport injured people or others in need of medical care to Metro South or Roseland Community Hospital, when a train is stopped.
Next time you are waiting for a stopped train at 103rd street, like what happened last Tuesday evening, keep in mind that Sen. Cunningham may be feasting a  juicy steak dinner with the RR lobbyist in Springfield.

Shame on you Sen. Cunningham. You were elected to represent the peoples interest in Springfield. Instead, the interest of out of state corporations has taken priority.

seems other local politicians also took HUSH money from CSX railroads....astounding arrogance.
perhaps that's why the Alderman, sent out his "irate" letter to all the 19th warder sheep!
I am not sure many folks in the 19th ward are going to follow them blindly anymore, I have had many surprising conversations with my neighbors and a GREAT deal of them are indicating they are done with being taken for granted and realize how screwed up things really are, most are voting for Rauner Murphy Cross & Baar

How about the Weight, the Trains are carrying. I have lived next to the Tracks since 1985, The Trains are carrying more weight; causing stress cracks in plaster walls and foundation cracks. Who is regulating the Weight ? Sounds like a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT .

      What's the claim?
Are you going to sue your builder for building too close to the tracks?

    1. Let's clarify something. The money he took is not cash. It's in the form of campaign contributions. Nothing illegal about it but it sure stinks.

Still waiting to hear 1 thing that makes Murphy qualified. All I see is NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE . Bill Cunningham, Fran Hurley and Matt O'Shea have all done more for our community then any of you hacks on this board. I done with this board. I thought it was for the betterment of our neighborhood, but all you people do is try to tear it down. SEE YA.

    1. Yes it's the truth. No crime committed. Just a betrayal of the public trust.

Mike Sheahan and Jerry Joyce would never have accepted contributions like this. They knew their first loyalty was to the residents. Cunningham is different. Ruthless may be the word most appropriate here.

Enough of this accusatory bullshit, has there been a issue presented to the legislature that required a yes or no vote that indicates Cunningham has been bought off. A campaign donation. big friggin deal, look at every elected politician, if there's a legal impropriety, bring forth the charges, detailed, otherwise you sound like a shrill, pre-election finger waver, all noise no substance. Who owns you, who are you pushing, whose agenda are you pushing.....Jeez, this bullshit makes me puke, grow up for christ sake.
