Ebola - Update

Ebola spreading fast. Fastest in Sierra Leone

In the past 21 days, Sierra Leone has reported 924 confirmed cases, or 40% of the total number of deaths in the country since the outbreak began. That’s also the biggest increase out of all three west African countries, reports West Africacorrespondent Monica Mark.
The new cases have come through a surge in infections in the western area, including the capital Freetown, which previously reported only sporadic cases.
The country’s top officials are currently holding a closed door meeting in Freetown to discuss. “We can’t explain exactly why the numbers have gone up in the western area, but we’re going to discuss how to tackle it,” said Brima Kargbo, the chief medical officer.
In addition to Africa, as of October 9, the disease has been reported in Texas, Wisconsin, Spain and Australia.

Last night, on a CNN news broadcast, the CDC had a doctor explaining the transmission of this virus. Unlike "hard shell" viruses that are transmitted through the air, he explained the ebola virus has a membrane and needs to be wet, and that it can only be transmitted through contact with blood, mucus or feces. Ok, so you have an NBC cameraman that came down with this as well as a nurse who claims she wore safety equipment and both have this. Without sounding a panic alarm or inciting hysteria, why would anyone allow even the slightest chance of this virus to enter this country? If this administration is so hell bent on eradicating this virus, let those who wish to endanger themselves, go to the site and provide treatment there. The CDC can make all the assurances in the world, and yet people who've had incidental contact are coming down with this.
Its just another irresponsible government decision that has the potential to endanger our entire population. And when your loved ones contract this virus, is the President or the CDC or the Surgeon General saying "sorry" going to make you feel any better. If they can't specifically pinpoint the origin of this virus and treatment beyond experimental medications, which at this time there wouldn't be enough of if time is of the essence, then this shouldn't be allowed in our country. What a bunch of jagoffs we have calling the shots here.

I have been asking this same question. The response it seems is more casual than I would like.

It should be interesting to see how the President guides us through this crisis, given the 21 day incubation period of this virus and how those 21 days affect the campaigns of those politicians who have about 26 days left to bullshit us before the elections.
