Increased CSX train traffic has been made possible by contributions to Sen. Bill Cunningham

Bill Cunningham has a vested interest in the success of CSX  Corporation

CSX Corporation has made a business decision to triple the amount of train traffic through the neighborhood because of the lack of any meaningful inquiry by the guy that is supposed to be looking out for us. Every afternoon and evening there are trains stopped at 99th st, 103rd, 107th st., waiting for the Metra trains to cross further north. Note that these trains don't dare block 95th street because Evergreen Park Mayor Sexton will ticket them. So what does CSX do? They block the 19th ward streets instead. They know there won't be any enforcement here. They gave $5000 to the state senator.

These problem of stopped trains could easily be alleviated by Cunningham filing a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission. Cunningham won't do that because he looks forward to receiving continued contributions from CSX. Meanwhile, since the neighborhood residents didn't give Cunningham $5000, they can be dammed.

Next time you are stopped by a train on 103rd or 111th think of Bill Cunningham and how he accepted campaign contributions from the railroads.

What did Quinn get caught up in this time?

A federal judge has granted a request by a Chicago attorney to appoint a monitor to oversee hiring at the Illinois Department of Transportation, dealing a blow to Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn less than two weeks before Election Day.
The transportation agency came under fire in April after Chicago attorney Michael Shakman, who has long crusaded against patronage, argued the Quinn administration was filling positions based on political considerations rather than job qualifications.
A subsequent report by the state Executive Inspector General Ricardo Meza outlined how Quinn had failed to rein in patronage abuses at IDOT after replacing ousted ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Is this probe about to turn into a second criminal investigation?
Quinn is the kind of  politician that will say or do anything in order to get elected. In Illinois that's a dangerous quality.

Bill Cunningham has how many relatives on the payroll? Just another phony politician.

DOUBLE DIPPER

THERE ARE 21 people named Cunningham on the Cook County payroll. Would someone ask Senator Cunningham how many of them are related to him? How did so many members of one family wind up working for one particular county?

A vote for Bill Cunningham is a vote for the following:

  • Abortion and stem cell abuse
  • Gay marriage
  • Pension funding shortfalls
  • A massive state income tax increase
  • Whatever liberal agenda Dart tells him to vote for
Cunningham is on record for ridiculing the content of this blog.

Ebola

NEW YORK — An emergency room doctor who recently returned to the city after treating Ebola patients in West Africa has tested positive for the virus, becoming the first case in the city and the fourth in the nation.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday urged residents not to be alarmed by the doctor’s Ebola diagnosis, even as they described him riding the subway, taking a cab and bowling. De Blasio said all city officials followed “clear and strong” protocols in their handling and treatment of him.
“We want to state at the outset that New Yorkers have no reason to be alarmed,” de Blasio said. “New Yorkers who have not been exposed are not at all at risk.”
The doctor, Craig Spencer, a member of Doctors Without Borders who had been working in Guinea, returned six days ago and reported Thursday morning coming down with a 103-degree fever and diarrhea. He was being treated in an isolation ward at Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital, a designated Ebola center.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which will do a further test to confirm the initial results, has dispatched an Ebola response team to New York, and the city’s disease detectives have been tracing Spencer’s contacts to identify anyone who may be at risk. The city’s health commissioner, Mary Bassett, said Spencer’s fiancee and two friends had been quarantined but showed no symptoms.

RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION IN US CAN BE TIED TO THE EQUIVOCATIONS OF POPE FRANCIS

Religious Freedom
By Irene F. Starkehaus -
The good news is that Synod 14 (delivered to world Catholics on October 18, 2014) indicates that the majority of Catholic Bishops and Cardinals worldwide are still unwilling to jettison five to ten thousand years of Judeo-Christian teachings (depending on who you ask) to appease the progressive, global hostility aimed at these views.
The bad news is that Pope Francis solidified the growing perception that he is willing to play ball with practitioners of moral ambiguity when he stressed his readiness to adapt Catholic views on marriage to incorporate non-traditional lifestyles.
Make no mistake. The Pope's equivocation endangers freedom and will ultimately jeopardize the lives of those who remain true to their faith. By vacillating, Pope Francis nurtures and cultivates the hostility that will lead to religious martyrdom in the free world. Additionally, he endangers countless souls who only know Catholicism through what they read in USA Today.

Regardless of what the MSM reported during last week's Extraordinary General Assembly, the Church has not modernized its approach to divorce, cohabitation or same-sex marriage. On display during the Synod was aggressive political maneuvering by the Church's progressives. Like many other organizational forums, the media was excluded from closed meetings so that parliamentary processes could move forward unobstructed. That left Bishops and Cardinals scrambling to microphones and cameras to spin their own versions of daily proceedings.
Moreover, as reporters recounted those unsubstantiated claims coming out of the Synod from its onset, they inserted themselves into the fabricated groundswell by collaborating with the political efforts of progressive, protestant Catholic clergy.
The "wag the dog" spin of events on display did nothing to address the real issues that are before the Bishops and Cardinals. They succeeded only in buoying irreverence while dispiriting the faithful. See this video from Church Militantfor a better understanding of daily procedures at work during the conference. The growing frustration coming from conservative and traditional Catholics is palpable.
I encourage any Catholics and non-Catholics who wish to use the Synod as a spring board for moral upheaval to read the final message…which is the only one that counts by the way… offered in the report because the most shocking aspect of the document is that there is nothing extraordinary about it. The text reiterates the longstanding tradition that all are welcome to participate in Catholic communion with Christ but only after certain conditions are met. The criterion that one's soul must be free from mortal sin remains unmoved and the definition of mortal sin stands equally unyielding.
Moving beyond the blithering, anti-capitalist rhetoric that is now so typical, and in and of itself represents a malformed understanding of the faith in effort to mollify progressives, the most pointed phrasing in dealing with disfigured conjugal unions expressly characterizes them as impoverished:
"We recognize the great challenge to remain faithful in conjugal love. Enfeebled faith and indifference to true values, individualism, impoverishment of relationships, and stress that excludes reflection leave their mark on family life. There are often crises in marriage, often confronted in haste and without the courage to have patience and reflect, to make sacrifices and to forgive one another. Failures give rise to new relationships, new couples, new civil unions, and new marriages, creating family situations which are complex and problematic, where the Christian choice is not obvious."
Simply put, we must enter into marriage understanding what marriage is and is not. Ignoring the responsibilities of marriage may make the union prone to fissures and dissolution. Both can then drive people into new, poorly considered unions that are inherently misshaped and not Christian. So again, any union that goes beyond the fidelity and reason for traditional marriage is characterized as enfeebled, impoverished, impatient and lacking courage.
Given the Church's persistence in pacifying progressives, it should come as no surprise that the blame for growth in marital malformation is placed squarely at the feet of the free market. This mischaracterization of capitalists would be laughable if it wasn't so dangerous to the people who are just trying to live peaceful, prosperous lives.
Capitalist societies like the US are branded in this statement as spiritually deadened by prosperity at the same time that they are being blamed for not letting more immigrants across the borders so that they can be deadened too…the Church really needs a "Come to Jesus" on social justice because by the Church's own logic within this document, the US should be celebrated as doing God's work by blocking passage across our borders.
This irreconcilable argument for social justice that the Bishops are trying to make in favor of eating their cake and having it too is exactly why the Church should not be muddying the waters of marriage any more than it has so far. The Church's appeasement of economic socialism, which represents the schism from its own teachings on materialism, drives home an important lesson about playing footsie with progressives. Arguments in favor of the Left's warped definition of social justice are ultimately insupportable and will cause advocates to spiritually contort in their attempts to maintain lies and distortions…i.e. if the prosperity of free market societies is truly as soul deadening as Church leadership claims then the people of Central America should avoid it at all costs.
Prosperity isn't soul deadening, mind you. Materialism is soul deadening because it is a denial of the spirit, and materialism happens when religious institutions like the Catholic Church fail to educate people about God and truth, which are immutable. So when the Pope says, "God is not afraid of new things," as he calls for the Church to adapt to changing marital conditions because many of those unions ostensibly have something to offer society, he actually disorders Catholic teaching and perpetuates the materialism he would otherwise denounce if we could get a clear definition of what materialism is.
For the record, it is true that God wouldn't be afraid of new things because from God's perspective, there are no new things, so the Pope's statement is borderline meaningless unless we suspend our disbelief and pretend that something got lost in translation again.
The problem is that when Pope Francis misspeaks or his words conflict with Catholic teaching, he may believe he is embracing gradualism, which is the observation that the turn from sin often comes in fits and bursts. What he is really doing is undermining the devout Catholic's ability to defend the faith. So when a Catholic parent goes up against a school board to protect her child against the promotion of the nihilism that is inherent in gay marriage, she will have a hard time explaining that promoting this lifestyle infringes upon her First Amendment rights. The school board will merely respond, "Oh, really? That's not what your Pope says."
Now, that mother will possibly know that Pope Francis is playing fast and loose with the truth, but she also will identify that the rock on which the Church is built now dissolves into quicksand when she grasps for it. In this way, the Church has borne false witness against her in an ultimate betrayal of spirit. She must face possible persecution knowing that the Church will fold under pressure when progressives demand a shift in policy.
The danger in that betrayal is personified in a case that has now arisen in Idaho, where city officials have told ordained ministers they have to celebrate same-sex weddings or face fines and jail time. Houston pastors have been ordered by the city to turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity issues or the Houston mayor's sexual orientation. And quotingFr. John Zuhlsdorf via Cabrini Center for Catholic Healthcare:
"In 2010, Cardinal Francis George of Chicago outlined the degree to which he believed religious freedoms (in the United States and other Western societies) were endangered. After the passage of legislation that enabled Civil Unions in Illinois, his eminence stated: 'I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square.'
In February of 2012, Cardinal George reflected on the seriousness of the Obama administration's health-care mandate: 'At the present moment, Catholics in this country are facing challenges to our institutional existence and our mission that we thought would never arise here. … The laws that used to protect us are now being used to weaken and destroy us, and this quite deliberately.'
Shortly, thereafter, when the Obama administration and the media touted the fact that the Catholic Bishops are alone on the contraception issue and that most Catholics aren't supporting them in this battle, Cardinal George wrote: 'This is the first time in the history of the United States that a presidential administration has purposely tried to interfere in the internal working of the Catholic Church, playing one group off against another for political gain. What isn't always understood is that the Bishops of the Church make no attempt to speak for all Catholics; they never have. The Bishops speak for the Catholic and apostolic faith, and those who hold that faith gather around them. Others disperse.'
It would seem that Pope Francis will not speak for the Catholic and apostolic faith and would much rather be popular than a shepherd for the Catholic people.

Paul Vallas

Self appointed expert on reform and talking down to you. Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Bridgeport? There has been major controversy everywhere he has worked. Would it be safe to presume that Paul Vallas is a guy that knows how to wear out his welcome. When he was living at 107th and Maplewood he was not the most approachable guy. This is your would be next Lt. governor.

Paul Gust Vallas (born June 10, 1953) is a former superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools, a former Superintendent of theRecovery School District of Louisiana, and a former CEO of Chicago Public Schools and the School District of Philadelphia. He is running for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 2014 with incumbent Governor Pat Quinn.

Life and career

During his tenure as CEO of the Chicago Public Schools from 1995 to 2001, he led an effort to reform the school system, and his work was cited by President Bill Clinton for raising test scores, balancing the budget, and instituting several new programs included mandatory summer school, after school programs, and expanding alternative, charter, and magnet schools.

The position of CEO of the CPS was created by Mayor Richard M. Daley after he successfully convinced the Illinois State Legislature to place CPS under mayoral control. Vallas had previously directed the budget arm of the Illinois State Legislature and served as budget director for Daley.
Controversy plagued Vallas towards the end of his reign as CPS CEO. Following criticism from the mayor, and the election of a union president who ran on an anti-Vallas platform, Vallas resigned in 2001 and ran for Governor of Illinois as a Democrat. Vallas placed second in the Democratic primary, losing narrowly to now-former-Governor Rod Blagojevich while running ahead of former state Attorney General Roland Burris.[1]
Following the election, Vallas was appointed CEO of School District of Philadelphia. In this capacity, he presided over the nation's largest experiment in privatized management of schools, with the management of over 40 schools turned over to outside for-profits, nonprofits, and universities beginning in Fall 2002.
In 2005, Vallas considered challenging Blagojevich again for Illinois governor in the Democratic Primary but decided against it. He then signed a two-year contract (2007–2008) as superintendent of the Recovery School District of Louisiana. Vallas ultimately remained head of the Recovery School District through 2011.
On April 28, 2008 he appeared before the City Club of Chicago and on Chicago news shows discussing a possible run for governor in 2010.[2][3][4] In February 2009, Vallas gave an interview to Carol Marin in the Chicago Sun-Times and stated that he planned to return to Cook County, Illinois in 2009 and run as a Republican for Cook County Board president in 2010.[5]
On June 11, 2009, Vallas announced that he would not be a candidate for President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners in 2010. Vallas stated that he could not "begin a political campaign while trying to finish what he started—rebuild the school system there in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."[6]
After Haiti's 2010 earthquake, President René Préval gave the Inter-American Development Bank the mandate to work with the Education Ministry and the National Commission preparing a major reform of the Education System in a 5-year plan to reconstruct; Mr. Vallas has been working with the bank in this effort.
In 2013, Vallas became Superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools. On June 28, 2013, a state superior court judge ruled that Vallas did not complete a state-mandated school leadership program and was therefore not qualified to be superintendent in Connecticut. On July 17, 2013 the State Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal of the ruling and to decide if he should remain in office. This followed several months of controversy over Vallas' credentials to serve as superintendent in the state of Connecticut.[7] In November, 2013, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn tapped Vallas to be his running mate in the 2014 election.[

The myth of the tiny radical Muslim minority

Ben Shapiro takes on Ben Affleck and the myth that only a tiny minority of Muslims worldwide are radical.

Inlaws

Grandparents

Or, as they're called in Yiddish, the 'machatonim'

Even before Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky headed home from the hospital on Monday, we had seen the first photos of her with her “over the moon” new grandparents, Bill and Hillary Clinton. But where were the machatonim?
In case you’re wondering, machatonim is a Yiddish word that describes a relationship for which there is no equivalent word in English: the parents of your child’s spouse. And in the case of the Clintons, the machatonim are two longtime friends and allies: Marjorie Margolies and Edward Mezvinsky.
Marjorie is a women’s rights activist and former Congresswoman from Pennsylvania who served a momentous single term in 1993-95 after her deciding vote for the Clinton budget cost her her seat. She ran but lost in the Democratic primary this spring, despite vigorous support from both Clintons. Her former husband, Edward Mezvinsky, served two terms in Congress from Iowa — but also served fived years in prison after being convicted of fraud in 2001. They were divorced in 2007. So maybe their low profile is understandable.
“We are totally delighted,” Marjorie told TIME. What matters this week, anyway, is the relationship of the Clintons and the Margolies-Mezvinsky as machatonim — surely a more efficient way to put it than fumbling around awkwardly with phrases like “my daughter’s in-laws.” If Bill and Hillary are newcomers to their heightened status as grandparents, Marjorie and Ed are black-belt machatonim. Between their combined eleven children, they already have 18 grandchildren, thus presenting Charlotte with 18 cousins “who can’t wait to be part of Charlotte’s life,” Margolies says.
It’s often pointed out that the machatonim often become uncommonly close for two reasons: (1) their shared love for the same grandchildren, and (2) because they and the grandchildren are united by a common enemy: the parents.
So now begin the sensitive negotiations that are more than familiar to many grandparents. Which family will Charlotte (and, oh, her parents) visit for Thanksgiving? Or will they split the difference, Solomonically bolting after turkey dinner to commute to the Other Grandparents’ House for dessert? Who gives her the coolest presents? And, most terrifying, which grandparents does she says she loves the MOST? She will say she loves them all, of course. After all, at least genetically, all machatonim are created equal.
