A great accomplishment.
Succeeds where others have failed.
Bringing an experienced operator like Barracos to 111th street is a win win. Good job. Their presence on 95th street was critical to the renaissance of Evergreen Park. Expect the same on 111th street.
Again. Glad that O'Shea is not hostile to a business in the 19th Ward. However, Barraco's made a business decision to place a store there to make money. O'Shea is not an owner of Barraco's to my knowledge. Why should he be lifted up as some hero ? Now if he was leading a fight in the City Council to scale back on onerous tax hurdles, and regulations for businesses operating in Chicago - then yeah let's give him a hand. Barracos probably did some serious market research and found out how many of us in the 19th were giving them business and decided to locate here. Again no ill for Matt but come on !
The speed camera on 111th is flashing every car. I noticed this while driving down 111th today. Apparently, these things are warning/ticketing parked cars: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-speed-camera-parked-car-met-20131128,0,223090.story
How pathetic. Not to sound like a rat fleeing a sinking ship, but I do have an offer on a place in Palos.
Anybody take a ride down 95, Western, Kedzie? WTF are you people talking about. 87 and Cottage Grove has a more vibrant business community . Please wake up !
Buonos Beef just announced pretty recently so I bet we will see some action from them sometime in the near future. Jansons on the other hand is clearly having trouble getting off the ground. Locals bought the company from the prior owners (who are the ones who drove it into the ground as well as the totally horrible, depression like business climate in the past...now FIVE years). It seems that they either ran out of money or are having trouble with a commercial loan. That is not surprising as small business has been crowded out of available money under the current 1970's throwback "Welcome Back Carter" administration....
It is the new economy where the rich do great, but the stuff that matters for the working and middle classes such as employment and access to credit are in the dump. Stock market is up, consumer prices are rising, and all that but the stuff for the regular people are all down.

ReplyDeleteBarraco's food is decent, but their prices are high for a neighborhood place.
ReplyDeleteTry Papa Joe's at 108th and Cicero. Better food. Better prices.
Yep. Mount Greenwood needs it.
ReplyDeleteWhats going on with Jantzens at 99th and Western and the Buena Beef that was going to be opened at 107th and Western?
ReplyDeleteWhile Jansons get Ja____ off.
