What Happened?

Some people say our legislators Bill Cunningham and Fran Hurley, recently voted in a way which is contrary to the interest of our retired police and fire. I am writing about the vote to transfer medical coverage to Obamacare, during the spring session.

At this juncture, I don't want to draw any conclusions. They are invited to write in and post their reasoning for such a vote. Their votes may have been carefully considered and they are hereby offered the opportunity.

Being a retired policeman who has recently been dumped by Emanuel to Obama Care I would love to hear what our local Reps have to say. After having worked for the City for over 32 years and figuring that I would I would have health care coverage in my retirement years this is what we get from the City of Chicago. There is money for Maggie Daley Park, there is money for McCormick Place expansion, but no money for those who gave to the City for the majority of their lives.
They say pension benefits are not sustainable so they will void them even though their was Constitutional agreement. If that's the case why don't they just void the Parking Meter deal. That is not in the City's best interest but you don't hear talk of walking on that agreement.

    1. Yep! That's it in a nutshell. Money for FOR (friends of Rahm) off of TIF (among other sources), but city salaries and benefits must be cut for the "benefit of the taxpayer" (guess city workers are not taxpayers). Leadership via photo and video op and catchphrases that mean nothing.

I called their office and asked why they voted that way.I really didn't know why they did. Joan told me, and to tell others, to go to the FOP web site. FOP had some answers, not all.
Don't rip on Joan please, she is worse off than we are.
And that is a Damn Shame!

What difference does it make, the people out here in the 19th ward will vote for them again. `

Neither one of these people understand their primary responsibility is to their constituents. Look at the same sex marriage measure. Clearly the majority did not agree with that. This medical measure comes down from the leadership and believe it or not does have some merit. I questioned the CTPF giy Huber yesterday on this and he seem to be open minded. If a subsidy is offered and one of these exchanges is agreeable well perhaps not too bad. Both of these legislators need to get the message out via establish mediums and quit assuming security because of ward organization sponsorship. That has always been the problem in the ward. Sadly issue understanding has always been lacking in this community .

    1. There may have been a good reason for their votes. I hope we can hear from them on this.

Organized labor, especially the Police, Fire and Teachers are the strength of our neighborhood. Why do we need an alderman, senator and representative when they continually vote against our interests just because rahm or madigan tell them to?

    What happened?

We elected all the wrong people -- from the White House to the State House. They gotta go.

How will this affect the widows?

Many of the widows have never worked outside their homes. They have nothing except their husbands' pensions.

The widows are headed to Obamacare. Thank your local politicians.

  9. I want to remind commenters that this topic concerns medical benefits for retired police and fire employees. Please limit your topic to that.

Yeah...we need Daley to come and fix our problems - the Chicago Machine Way. I had to laugh when Rahm insulted Gov Rick Perry for having a memory lapse during a debate (like everyone in the world has had at one time or another). Yeah that was the salient point. The real point is this : Rahm and Quinn are not travelling or promoting IL as a place to do business. Because it really is NOT. If we had a strong economy and lower unemployment we would be in a much better fiscal position in which to deal with this crisis. But Union guys have been screwed and lied to and used....over and over and over again. Wake up Proud Union Homes. There is no pride in unemployment. That is what your Democrats have given your unions and ALL of us.
