Obamacare Summed Up in One Sentence

5 comments:

  1. I heard the first three sentences -- OBAMACARE, LIKE ROMNEYCARE, REQUIRES PARTICIPATION AND FINES. IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT'S IN PLACE IN MASS, AND CITIZENS AND BUSINESSPEOPLE ALIKE in Mass give it high marks.

Whatever you want to call it, Romneycare or Obamacare or both, it is bad policy. It is a gift, really, to the insurance companies.

A very good book worth reading on this subject is The Healing of America by T.R. Reid. He does an excellent job in comparing different countries' health-insurance system.

Our entire system of health care is like Frankenstein: a combination of purely government to purely capitalist. For example, the Dept. of VA is purely government. Very few governments have a system that is simultaneously government-provider care and government insurance.

In other words, when understanding this issue, it is important to distinguish between health insurance and health care.

The shocking aspect to the American model is those in the private health insurance system.
    a) coverage tends to be more limited; and
    b) claims tend to be denied more
    in the for-profit insurance.

To return to Romney for a second, I cannot tell if he is in support or against his single-payer for-profit model. He loves it in Mass., but he hates it on a federal level. But then he supported a few aspects of it on a federal level.

murph may censor this comment as well, but I am absolutely serious when I say that I do not know if Romney supports or opposes his designed health system.

The best system is a national health insurance system, similar to what exists in Canada. Taiwan recently adopted this system and achieved huge savings and health improvements. China went from a national model to a totally private one with devastating results.

When people think of national insurance, they think of Cuba. But that is simply not the case.

As far as the health care system in Canada being one of the best, I suggest you ask a former 19th warder who married and moved to Vancouver a few years ago and then sought treatment for her illness. Treatment was available. Take a number and get in line. EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. She's now trying to scratch together money to pay for treatment back in the US. This is the same in the UK, unless you have high priced private insurance that gets you to the front of the lines.
Successful National Healthcare doesn't mean successful medical care.

There certainly are good points to the Canadian plan and bad points for the American "system". However, a couple points are worth mentioning. When Canadians have life threatening illnesses, where time is running out or when their treatment requires innovative methods or medicine...what do they try to do? Come HERE.

Also, our medical records will become property of the US government. They would never do anything bad with that information and that power right?

Like our democracy, our medical system is the worst in the world, except compared to almost every other system. We have problems and Obumstead was correct to try and address them. Too bad he felt he had to push it down our throats, without bipartisan support, twisting arms, exempting certain big companies and certain states etc....and pass it in the middle of the night by one or two votes....that does not sit well with the American public. And who will forget Pelosi's statement "we have to pass the bill to see what's in it"

  4. consider this,Obama care requires every citizen to prove they are insured but not everyone must prove they are a citizen . now add this, many of those who refuse or are unable to prove they are citizens WILL receive FREE health care paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they ARE citizens. plus there are hundreds of taxes and fees attached to all aspects of employees of All businesses.
