Rahm is preparing us for the tax increases that are about to be announced.  Look at this crazy story.

Why not a quck ooll on here?

For or against cutting the number of Aldermen to 10 or 15. It would instantly save millions of dollar that the aldertheives steal

  2. First, you can cut their pay. At a minimum, they make $104,000. Rich man's wages. Excessive, and not in line with the concept of public servant. Cut it to $80,000 and then are still paid handsomely.

Such a pay cut from excessive to merely high would save the city over one million dollars. And the savings would grow a lot if you cut the number of aldermen.

Then, use that money to get more police. Instead of proposing a dishonest tax that you refuse to call a tax.

Sorry, Rahm. As with any city, the taxpayers are already paying a massive 'safety and security fee'. That is what the general tax fund is for.

Where do you get your numbers from? Are you saying police officers recieve $104,000 for salary. If so you my friend are a numbers throwing idiot who doesn't do his homework. I have ten years on the job as a chicago police officer and am not making the $80,000 that you say we should be cut down to. I have to work as much overtime and a second job in order to provide for my family in order to get more than your said $80,000 yearly salary. There are some officers who make that money and they are called captains or higher.
Besides why do you even care about what happens in chiacgo?Your page says that you still live in grand rapids,mi.
So in short shut up until you know the facts because all you do is make yourself look stupid.

I am the police officer with ten years on the job who posted the above reply. It was unclear to me who you were talking about when you proposed the pay reduction. However afterwards I realized the error of my reply towards you're comment being towards the alderman and not towards myself or my hard working and honest brothers and sisters in blue. For my error earlier I amdo man eb
Nough to admitthe my mistakestarting and I do apologize.
One point that I would like to make is that their job is supposed to be part time. Hell I wish I could find a $104,000 part time job. Especially since half of the services they offer are available to do online or by calling 311.

    3. Another Anon asked: "Where do you get your numbers from? "

I linked to the article, and you ignored it.

"Are you saying police officers recieve $104,000 for salary."

Hello. The article I linked to, and the discussion, was concerning aldermanic salaries.

"If so you my friend are a numbers throwing idiot who doesn't do his homework. I have ten years on the job as a chicago police officer..."

Sorry, Officer, you are flying off the handle because you were too much in a hurry to read my comment which was about cutting aldermanic salaries so the money could go to the police.

"...and am not making the $80,000 that you say we should be cut down to."

Again, I was speaking of the Aldermen....

"Besides why do you even care about what happens in chiacgo?Your page says that you still live in grand rapids,mi."

I love the city, and don't want to see it to go further to hell, Officer. And I used to live in "Chicagoland"

"So in short shut up until you know the facts because all you do is make yourself look stupid."

      cough cough....

    4. The apology, due to the approval system, showed up after I typed my reply. Accepted and fine, Officer.

Face it, unionionized government workers are being paid too much. 30% pay cuts are not out of the question and will hit soon.

    1. Exactly. All involved need to be paid a fair wage, which is equal to the value of the work. This means paying what is necessary to hire and keep qualified employees, and no more than that.

The days of handing out excessive unearned raises without regard to value, just for the hell of it, should end. It is high time. Taxpayers, and recipients of city services deserve no less.

Why are unionized government workers being paid too much? Maybe you're just not being paid enough.

    4. Anon directly above said: "Why are unionized government workers being paid too much?"

Because the government is incapable or unwilling to pay them the fair, real market wage.

"Maybe you're just not being paid enough."

No, I am working in the private sector, where the pay, with rare exceptions, tends to be for the real value of the work involved. Not too much, not too little.

  4. Again, all the tired shiboleths are rolled out -- unions, aldermen, bla bla bla. People accept the rape that goes on with TIFs and "tax breaks" and "trust funds" that go to people who don't need them. Powerlessness does funny things.

  5. Tax breaks to people who do need them? How arrogant of you to assert that people don't need their own property.

  6. dmarks: Me arrogant? This from the guy who calls teachers lazy, etc.? When police start picketing, or even bargaining behind the scenes, will you say anything at all?

Thanks for dodging the question, as you always do. Do you even know what a TIF is? What the financial interests in this city got last year? I can only conclude from your comments that you want the rich to get richer at the expense of the middle class in Chicago.

How does any Alderman sign a letter trying to convince members of the teachers' union to give up their bargained for rights ? What's next have the police and firefighters work for free in unsafe conditions ? Why don't we just make the mayor the king and do away with the alderman who just rollover for him ?

While I didn't like the letter, no one asked teachers to give up the rights they bargained for. Did you read the letter? No ones rights were questioned. If letters were to be sent at all, it would have been nice if such a letter went to the other side too, but it had nothing to do with rights.
