Mike Sheahan

What a good guy he was.
Mike Sheahan went to Mendel and St Joe's where he played football. He was on the job until he became 19th ward alderman in 1979 where he served honorably and effectively until 1990. He then served as Cook County Sheriff from 1990 to 2006. This is a guy who is a man's man and always did the right thing. No BS type of person. A true credit to our neighborhood.

The man have never been honored for his achievements. I propose that Beverly Park be renamed for Michael F. Sheahan.

"On the job" ????????? Why do you cops all assume we are hip to your BS cop talk. Mike Sheahan is a great man. His #1 quality is, even though he is a former cop, he never acts like one.

I hate "on the job." Yes, it is BS cop talk. Thanks for addressing that, reader. I noticed it too.

You have to be dead in order to have a park named for you. I think Ridge Park would be more fitting. He coached grammar school boys basketball and boys football there for most of the 80's. He's still coaching 7th grade girls basketball at Ridge to this day! Guess we have to wait till he passes.

I remember seeing Mike when he was alderman out in ten below zero with a good wind, taking down some one way street signs that some yahoos had put up.

  15. please, these people are politicians. I'm sure they did some very nice deeds but isn't that their job? there are
real every day people throughout this ward who do some wonderful things in the ward. stop trying to be the 11th ward.leave the park names alone. remember these alderman for what you want to remember and leave it at that.

Rename Ridge Park ? Really ? No thanks....Sheahan gets high praise for not being a complete a** like the new breed socialist snarky liberals like Dart, Maloney phoney, Fran Hurling, Richie Cunningham, etc.... so we rename little league Sheahan-Beverly Little League....no thanks....I remember talking to one of the Sheahan's brothers....he was telling me all about how the REPUBLICANS were up to dirty tricks.....I nearly spit beer in his face laughing....he gave us DART !!

I believe the proposal was to rename Beverly Park. I am all for it as I think Sheahan is among the best. Not at all like dart maloney cunningham or hurley. My God, we elected these people? What does that say about us.

They could rename a park for for Mike Sheahan having nothing to do w/politics. He coached ball since the last century, he was a great ref for college ball, he's really funny, his mom was a super nice teacher and gave everyone A pluses and cookies. The most important thing he did though was when he gave us rides to school in the cop car when we missed the bus so we wouldn't get detentions or get our asses kicked by our parents when they got the "late call" from the office. Rename Western Avenue for Gods sakes!
