An important message from the alderman.

His Highness, Matthew O'Shea, Duke of Beverly, Knight of  Greenwood, Earl of Morgan, Alderman of the 19th ward and seeker of truth.

COMMUNITY MEETING

The South Side Irish Parade will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am. This Sunday, March 4, 2012, there will be a meeting at the Beverly Arts Center at 6:30 pm for the immediate neighbors. At this meeting, members of the South Side Irish Parade Committee and the Chicago Police Department will outline plans for crowd control and public safety. This is the appropriate forum for residents to address any questions or concerns they may have about parking, public safety, and the zero tolerance policy for open alcohol.

There have been a number of changes to parade plans this year that will impact you as residents living near the parade route. Most significantly, in an effort to maintain public safety, there will be "No Parking" on Artesian Ave between 103rd St. and 111th St., and on Claremont Ave between 103rd St. & 107th St., from 6am-3pm. Any cars parked on the street during that time will be ticketed and towed to the City of Chicago Auto Pound Lot at 103rd & Doty.

If you have questions, but are unable to attend this meeting, please contact the South Side Irish Parade Committee at 773-916-7747 or info@southsideirishparade.org. Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation during this year's parade.

TOO BAD THAT THEY CAN'T TAKE AWAY PARKING FROM THE ENTIRE AREA FROM/TO CALIFORNIA BETWEEN 103 AND 111TH!!!...THAT WOULD MAKE MY DAY!!!---ACTUALLY CANCELING THE PARADE WOULD REALLY MAKE MY DAY!!!

Thanks for posting this blogger. I will not be able to attend the meeing, but maybe this will help spread the word to others who can attend and they can update us on what took place. While I am not a fan of the parade as it morphed into semi-debauchery, we do have a chance to set a good example for others in the community by de-emphasizing the booze and emphasizing our Irish Heritage, and the goodwill the Irish bring to communities. AND Parents need to police their own kids this year. Maybe with a fresh start, and the actions the parade organizers have put in place - we will have a parade we can be proud of again.

Can you please tell me the point of organizing a community meeting to "voice your concerns" a week before the parade. How will that change anything. It sounds like most aspects of the day of the parade are pretty set in stone in the minds of CPD officials.
Where are the homeowners supposed to park their cars the day of the event? Homeowners like myself who do not own a parking space/garage.

  6. Now is not the time for complaining. The alderman and parade committee needs everyone's cooperation and best behavior.

Just received the bash letter about Tony Martin from 19th Ward Democratic Organization. Took a ride to asked who paid for the mailing and was told Mat Oshea, maybe Cunningham too. As I was leaving smart remark by office help at 3215 W 111th. Another patronage job to someone with no skill just like Hurley. Hope you enjoy your one term and done OShea. Cunningham you just lost a vote.

Cunningham doesn't need your vote, and no one can beat O'Shea. Maybe the office help didn't understand what you were asking about because your communication skills are poor.
